Tool paths for lettering

Hi,

 

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best tool path type for machining pocketed lettering? I've tried pocket facing but it isn't able to get all my letters at once.

I'm currently using Mastercam for SOLIDWORKS and I don't have/can't find the toolpaths engraving. Is there another method?

I am not sure what you are trying to do but if it is a simple letter try contour with comp turned of.

 

I am assuming SW for MC has contour.

it depends what you are using for a cutter, i use pocket with a 60 deg cutter with a .005 flat ,.003 step over.

If the pocketing toolpath can't get them.

 

You may have to create a flat sketch of stick lettering and then use contour with comp off to get it.

Most of the time, i will Create >> Letters to make the geometry and then use a small (relative term depending on letter size) ballnose with cutter comp off and a pocketing toolpath with a small (relative term again) stepover like .001 or so.
