tapping

Okay - you lost me. Are you talking about the spindle speed and feed in the operation parameters OR the spindle speed and feed in the tool definition?

In either case (in inch units), mine works fine. The spindle speed and feed seem to be tied together when assigning a tapping tool to your operation. Change the spindle speed and the feed changes. Change the feed and the spindle speed changes. Both are being calculated to the pitch of the thread. PITCH = 1.00 / number of threads. FEED = Pitch X spindle speed. RPM = Feed / pitch.

In METRIC, the THREAD value in the tool defintion seems to be the pitch value in millimeters (the distance between the threads). It's not the # of thread per inch. It should read "Pitch" if it's a metric tool.

Maybe this is where you're going wrong?

Remember when tapping, spindle speed and feedrate are tied together. If you change one, the other will change because the formula is determined my the thread pitch. Just something to consider.

in metric, pitch X RPM = feedrate.

for instance, a 6mmX1 metric tap spinning

at 250mm per minute (roughly 9.8 inches per minute) would have a feedrate of 250mm

per minute becuase there is one thread per revolution. to save those vales, set up

your taps in the tool definition library.

we setup mine and they have never changed.
