So I have a part and I am extruding some 3/8"-16 hole locations into the extra stock on the bottom. I would like to model the drill point into these blind holes because the point will be close to contacting the actual part, which I cannot do. So I have extruded my holes into the model, but they are just flat bottom. What is a good technique for quickly creating drill points in a blind hole location?

Oh, I figured it out. Just chamfer the bottom face

That works quite well Kevin! I have never needed to do that, and thus have never thought of it, but that is quite a simple and effective solution. When I used to model fixtures with UG, the create hole option had drill point settings so that was easy enough, but mastercam does not have this functionality.

I was thinking that would be a nice feature. Actually, the solids could really be improved in Mastercam a lot. I am getting some nice solid work done though...

So you extrude cut the hole, then cut the draft?

You have to create geometry at the bottom of the hole and then you can extrude that edge with draft to create the drill point. When I need to do something like that I use this procedure.

Thanks for the tip. The way I did it works pretty good too. I just created a Distance and Angle Chamfer on the bottom face. Distance was set to half the hole diameter, and the angle is set to 30 deg. This creates a 120 degree drill point with the point at the depth the hole was created at.

When you need to get fancy, c-bore, cfer, major dia, and minor can be done in one shot with a revolved cut. Got a bunch of holes? Revolve as a solid, not cut, then xfrom translate, then boolean remove all of them.
