Inspecting ID features with plaster?

Recommended Posts

I have some ID groove features to check that I cant reach with what I have here. I have seen people use some sort of cast in this situation before and then measure it on a comparator. What do you guys use? Is there any release agent or shrinkage to take into consideration?

TIA

We use a dental wax - heat it up slightly with a lighter and it goes soft so you can manipulate it and push it in to get a form.

Wait a few secs and it cools and you can then get a measurement on the optical.

Re-use again for the next and next and next job etc.

I'll look at the make tomorrow at work and post back.

We ordered this:

It worked like a champ! Pulled the parts out of the ultrasonic cleaner and they were pretty warm too the touch. This stuff was setup & ready to measure on the comparator in 5 minutes. ( My tolerances were loose so the extra heat was of consequence. Just needed to know we were right before we ran the entire lot of parts.)

Thanks for the suggestion guys.
