We got a GoPro Hero 3 Black edition in Friday to capture some videos from inside our machines to help put together some promotional materials. This was our first stab at it. The battery went dead before the cut was finished, but its a pretty cool video and show some of the potential for what we are going to be able to get with this cool new addition to the shop.

I had a very frustrating phone conversation several weeks back with a GoPro sales/technical guy. I was trying to ask him if their was a way to use this camera for remote monitoring. Every time he would tell me another reason it couldn't be used for that purpose I would say what if I did ____ to try and overcome that problem. All he kept saying was its not made for that and I would void my warranty, or run my battery, dead, or............It just really seemed like he didn't want to try.

 

 

Anyway. If you find something please share. I have being looking into the MT Connect and some other stuff on the market. We have a Remote Notification Service on one of our machines that would send text messages thru a GMS sim card, but since we have moved into our new building reception is non existent.

Oh, I thought it was some kind of inverted waterjet that was new or something, thought the blue light was some kind of inspection scanner.... lol

You are aware the gopro allows you to choose different framerates/resolutions, which have an effect on the battery life, right?

I see a lot of options in there to set picture & video quality. We had been messing around with it quite a bit leading up to this, so it wasn't really a surprise. We recharged and got a better video yesterday. Ready to get some milling shots now.
