Tool recomendations

Looking for tool choices for new project. I have contoured wall pockets with a .250 radius at the bottom.Material is 6061 T6,

pockets are 3.500 inches deep. Machine is Mori Seiki Horizontal with a cube to mount 4 parts,1 on each face.

Any good choices?

Endmills...

I had a similar long reach Titanium application with corner rad a while back. I had to reach down the walls of a casting 5.5". I used a Seco 3/4" dia square shoulder combimaster with a carbide extension to rough. For finishing, I used custom Helical endmills 3/4" dia x 8" oal. with 1/4" corner rad.

Here is a catalog from Helical. I'd recommend the H40ALV-RN-3 tool. You can get a .750 Diameter, 5.0" Length Below Shoulder, 7" OAL tool, with a .25 Radius. This is a stock tool.

Benchmark is another, I have used them both with great luck. I would rough with one and finish with another. The corncob as I like to call them for rougher will last longer and have less tool pressure. I run .750 at 8000rpm and 150 IPM with 90% step over and .200 deep per pass.

8000 rpm is cranking, i'll try it.I have a 3F corn cob to rough with and just ordered carbide ball emills to finish with.

.500 Ball is carbide. Rougher is HSS.

I run 99% carbide endmills so the feed and speed should be adjusted. I believe Brenchmark and helical solution are carbide only.

Yes they are going to be trying out the HAL style ones from Helical on a job next week with HST toolpaths. I am looking at 1/4 endmill 2" sticking out with .325 depth and 10% step over. I will let you everyone know how it goes.
