NX, CATIA and other High End Systems don't come with posts for these machines either and you pay a lot more for them, but the cheaper software Mastercam is supposed to?

Mastercam does ship with working posts for basic machines, but get above the standard axis combinations and you get what you pay for. I tell all customers when buying new machines to have the post included in the price of the new machine. Also make sure the machine model is included in the price.

Do you even know how many different machines are out there today? Not to mention you can take two identical machines and option them out different requiring a different post for each. Throw in personal preferences and macro programs and it is impossible to configure all those posts without increasing the price of Mastercam 10 to 20 fold or more. So no your boss doesn't have a valid point. I don't know about you but I would rather have CNC Software focus on making Mastercam better and pay the dedicated post builder to focus on making a perfect post. A post cost is roughly 1% of the machine cost, it shouldn't be as much of an issue as people make it out to be. Having an edit free post will save you far more that its price over the life of the machine by reducing labor costs.

When you say "post included in the cost of the machine" are you guys saying that the machine manufacturer can include a post for MC?  If thats the case, I did not know that.

Ben, thats true, I never thought about that..

Dont get me wrong guys, I love MC.

Yes make it a part of the PO for any new machine when you have management who think fairy dust and magic wands create the parts and make the programs. If they have no sense of reality then demand the cost of the new machine help you included the most important part of the puzzle a working post for your CAM system of choice with its purchase.

Does your boss have any options on his vehicle? Did he get the maxed out vehicle at the base price or did he have to pay extra for options he wanted? Full seat of Mastercam is not the full can run every machine ever made on the face of the earth software. NO CAM THAT I AM AWARE OF WILL DO THAT. EVERYONE OF THEM REQUIRE A POST TO RUN NON BASIC MACHINES. The Yelling was for your boss not you.
