Relieving tool shanks

Looking for a small surface grinder to relieve endmill shanks. Any suggestions?

 

Right now we either buy a Harvey tool that will reach or stick an endmill in a hand drill and hit it on a grinding wheel... Not so effective when trying to grind a .02 endmill!

 

I was thinking a little surface grinder with a 5c manual spindle (whirly jig)

We have an old Harig that we use a 5c spindex on ALL the time.  Carbide and HSS.  The smallest I've relieved on it is Ø.0625.  You have good eyes?

I would say whatever you can find cheap and local. You are not trying to grind parts within .0001, just grind some shanks. #2 tool grinders can be had for a few hundred.

take a look at the Darex E90 it should do what you require and it's a bench top item that can be easily moved and stored .

We have something like that it it's more of a sharpener. I need to relieve say a 1/4" shank down to .200. Or make key cutters in house

Hi Everyone, relatively new on this, not sure if i am posting at the right place.

 

 

To cut a round material of 50 dia and 150mm length into a rectangular shape, which is the most apt machine? This is the initial step i have applied to make grooving tool holders.

 

Please suggest.

"not sure if i am posting at the right place." No it is not; you should have created a new topic.

 

A manual mill would be my choice for a 1 or 2 piece run; anything more than that I would source rectangular/square stock.

@ Allan- thank you for the suggestion, i will look at doing that, i have around 1500 a month for production right now, but what do you mean when you say you source rectangular stock.

finding a material supplier that stocks or can bring in the material that is either a square or rectangle shape to work with, over starting with a round bar and machining it to a square or rectangle profile .
