origin help

How do you set up on a mill for a round part in x8.I have my program ready but dont know how to touch off on my part in the vise,where do I make the center?

Usually I indicate the center but you can use an edge finder and some math if you don't have an arm long enough to reach with an indicator.

Some machines have macros built in also.

I use a chuck bolted to the table or you can use soft jaws if the flatness isn't critical

If you want to change the origin in mastercam and don't want to move the part you have to make a copy of top plane and set origin with the cursor.

 

Then edit common parameters and switch to your new plane

I did the edge finder thing do I make this point x0y0?

You should make it whatever you have in mastercam.

If it's center make it that.

 

Touching off tools depends how you setup your machine positive or negative offset?

I think you should keep the rapid and feed at the lowest settings  and watch the distance to go

And single block until you are about to enter the cut. This with the code and distance to go screen will confirm your position relative to your program.

If you are say heading for Z.1, you are .5 inches above the part and the distance to go says 6 inches, you are probably about to make a mess. Time to stop and figure out the problem.

Hit F9 and see where your origin is sitting in regards to your part.
