  2. I have heard from other people in the trade that work nc is excellent for surfaceing compared to mastercam. I can only say that from what I have heard from other people. The Place that my work bought there cncs from also used work nc to program with to demo there cncs. They said it worked better for complex surfacing. Like I said im only going by hear say.
  3. Thank you all for your replys. As also this site is very helpful. I see I should give mastercam a honest shot in the drawing aspect more than I have. And let me correct my self by saying I use autodesk Inventor for my modeling. As I like the parametric portion of 3d modeling. Again thank you all for you replys. I think some of the Issues I have seen is when I watch another mastercam user draw it just seem like it takes them forever. But I must remember not every one that uses mastercam is truely trained properly. As I myself am self taught, which is my opinion not a good thing for me. Because I know there are better ways to do things than I am doing. Again thank you all for your help.
  4. Hello, I have been programming in mastercam for years now and my question is. I always draw my parts in autocad and then import them into mastercam, as I am much faster this way. I have had this debate with people that draw all there stuff in mastercam. And I yet to come across a person who can draw faster in mastercam then I can in autocad and bring it in. Now I am not saying there aint people than cant. What I am trying to figure out is there a benifiet from drawining in mastercam than autocad? I am in no way saying my method is better just havent heard any good reason why. The reason I bring this up is I am finding programmers are spending so much time drawing more complex parts im mastercam. Just looking for some advice, by no means bashing people for drawing in mastercam. Just trying to figure out if maybe there is a better way of doing my job. I am an certified in autocad so I can draw really fast im autocad. But I am wondering if I am limiting what mastercam can do but my methods. Thank in advance for advice.

  10. Thank you John for your help. I appreciate it and thank this forum as I have learned so much from every one here just by reading the post.
  11. Thank you for the reply. Are you saying to use the ramp feature under the pocket mill options? Under entry ramp, then you can choose helix or ramp? And if thats what your talking about, where in there do I control the z depth and angle it feeds down in. Thank you again for your patients and help.
  12. Hello, I got a 3/4" slot that is a 1/2" deep on a 3 inch circular pattern. Im using a 1/2" endmill. I use the pocket option in mastercam 9 to mill the slot out. How would I tell mastercam to ramp down in the z axis as its cutting around in the slot, so i dont have to drill a starter hole? I tried messing with the helix bore but I must be missing something. As the cutter goes around the circular path I would like it to reach final depth in Z after first pass around the 3" circular path. Thank you in advance for your help.
  13. I am running an 3/8" 3 flute ticn coated cleveland endmiil. I am maching alum. my question is they recommend 400-2500 sfm. Thats pretty wide open. My set up is very rigid and im cutting .550 dp. I am circle interpolating a blind hole. I have 15 hp mill so its got some power. Were would someone suggest starting at on the sfm. and when it comes to plunge milling into the pocket what is a good feed rate? Im assuming it cant be the same as they recommend for side milling. And the last question is what would a max axil or z azis cut be for a 3/8" endmill? Thanks in advance. and sorry for such a long question.
  14. Thank you so much. IT works great cant believe how simple. Again thanks for answering such an elementry question.
  15. When I run a contour is there a way to pick a set x, y starting point for the endmill to start. Because i like my cutter to go into a predrill holes in the z so the cutter doesnt have an z load. I am new to mastercam so this might be a rookie question. Any help would be appriated. I understand the ramp part of a partfile but it doesnt let me say pick a spot to start. Thank you in advance.
