For example in contour I would program left- left and at the machine put in Zero for tool Diameter. if the contour came out .002 too small (ID) then I would change the tool dia to -.002. The machine would then think the tool was smaller (In fact it may be smaller-re-grind etc.) and it would move it closer to the contour to compensate. As a matter of fact this is how I usually program at the Fadal so that when I backplot I get what I see. However Pocket "Wear" seems to do the same thing. Or another way of saying it is you cant choose Left Left in Pocket. ie. choose wear.
I have never thought to try contour left right!!! And I will! But how would you choose Left Right in Pocket????
I notice there are three choices for tool comp in pocket parameters finish called:
Computer, Machine, Wear.
So I tried wear and the result was equivalent to choosing Left Left in contour parameters when it is posted. (A toolpath offset by the tool radius.)
In this case, of course, one would have to enter the tool diameter at the machine as zero and adjust for size from there +-.
So my question is exactly what is "wear"?
Thanks, Andy

What is this file associated with the post file called .txt ? I notice that my fadal.pst does not have a fadal.txt file associated with it. What is it? How does one create it.

I just downloaded the latest driver and the wheel now works in the editor. Hurray!
However, when I installed the driver it changed one of my settings in my cable modem and I spent some time solving that problem.
Little wonder everyone fears installing new stuff. You never know for sure what is going to happen.
Thanks all,
As usual this forum is a great tool for all.

Multax,
Your arguments would carry more weight if your spelling improved. Paying attention to details conveys competence.

Would be nice.

Josh,
First this is not an equation (no = sign)
Therefore the teacher is not looking for a solution for x or y.
I think what is presented implies they want the student to do distributive multiplication to learn how to deal with paranthesis.
Hence: 8(20+y+x) is 8*20 + 8*y + 8*x
or simply: 160+8y+8x
as Bill noted.
Good luck,
Andy

Well, I sure got a lot of responses. This must be a popular forum, huh? I luv this forum.
Spindle is not chilled. Rpm was 950. End mill 1/2 roughing and ran for 10 minutes.
No coolant through spindle. Fadal is 1990'.
How about a drop of anti-sieze. Is that what copper coat is?
Thanks, Andy

Right after you select the points to drill hit done and then OPTIONS (Just above the second Done) and you will get a window with all the choices you can imagine.
Good luck

We use a coolant called Blaser.
No, but we really like the coolant.
We also tried wiping the taper on the holder and the spindle till it was very clean.
And when we run a heavy roughing cut say 1/2 EM I think what happens is the taper gets really driven tight and does not want to release easily hence the banging release.
A little powdered graphite on the taper eliminates the problem at leastfor the time being. I cant be the only one experiencing this.
Thanks,
Andy

What about Windows ME? Does anyone use it and if so are these cards ok for it too??

I use powdered graphite to help prevent tool holder from banging out of spindle during tool change. (Fadal)
Does anyone know any other methods??

What I looked up says;
N is the pass #
D= first path depth N=1
Second pass TOTAL depth D2=D*SQR(2)
Third D3=D*SQR(3)
Nth Dn=D*SQR(nth)
This is known as constant volume cut. ie
the same volume of material is removed every pass.
In my Mori there is a P parameter in the G76 code that allows for 4 different types of material removal
P1 as above
P2 constant material, alternating edge.
P3 constant infeed, single edge cutting.
P4 constant infeed, alternating edge.
Hope this helps.

Does 8.11 improve these problems?

Hi GCode,
Your not off to the lake this weekend either?
I tried Job setup import and it worked better. However, my KEO slotter came in as a 31/64 Drill (contour operation of course).
Very strange!!

Save and retrieve operations question...
So I tweak a bunch of operations on a brass job and save the operations.
Later, in another similar job, I load the ops from that previous job and notice that:
1. Coolant is off (It was on)
2. Feed rate is the tools feed rate not the tweaked feed rate.
3. RPM is tools also not the tweaked speed.
It appeared that all the other parameters came in ok.
So I try again but first change job set up and uncheck "use tools step, peck, coolant. Still did not work.
Does anyone know what is up??
