  1. I finally got a few minutes: Using Troy lbs. 24113.25 Joules (Before you hints) What a units review for 1968 Physics. Andy
  2. Ok, but can you run MasterCam in the office from the shop computer? Andy
  3. What is remote desktop? Bullines mentioned this earlier. Would this be like single user network? I want to run MC from shop remotely (occasionally) to edit, post, send nc to machine etc. where MC is in my office computer where I do most of my work. Andy
  4. Bullines, Im uploading it right now. Andy
  5. Yes, the older drivers fixed me right up too. Windows ME and same video card. Detonator 3 Drivers for Windows 9x and ME Got them from Mark [email protected] Good Luck, Andy
  6. You can also make your own icon by modifiying an existing icon (.bmp) in a windows paint program and save it to the new name. However this new name must be assigned in mill.cfg file in the button assignment section. ex. 2323. (B23) assignment? plot for screen plot. And your Icon file is called Plot.bmp Andy
  7. Paul, I seem to remember 2 years ago making the same change to the post. So far no bad consequences. It is an interesting question about how to view the cw ccw diriction of drills etc. For example, if you view a drill in the drill press as cw rotation, ie looking down from above the drill (Better use a RH drill), and as your drilling the hole the the drill stops turning and the stock starts turning and you still get chips, then the stock is turning CCW. But maybe someone can tell us why any particular convection was chosen. I cant remember what convention I have always used in the manual lathe, if any. Only when I back that tap out I better REVERSE it. I dont think I ever thought CW or CCW. Forward and reverse maybe. The concept became more important in the cnc for me when the tools were cutting on the backside. But drilling was still the same. So now I must THINK about rotation, more aspirin please. Lets see, I am cutting an internal LH thread with a bar that has a rh insert but is upside down cutting on the close side of the bore.........???? What a puzzle! Andy
  8. Just to define terminology: 1. M4 Is cw viewing chuck from tailstock. 2. A left hand OD turning tool is a tool that turns the backside of the stock(opposite side from where we are watching with the spindle to our left)and turns from right to left. Insert is on the top of the tool holder. Tool is not upside down. This LH RH tool terminology can be real confusing especially on the backside of the work. I always remember it from the manual lathe: tool on my side, turning OD right to left is a RIGHT HAND tool. Someone decided that 100? years ago. Anyway I get m4 in my post for this set up and it is consistent with the tool setup page. On the tool setup page I choose: 1 Vertical tool (and insert facing me or up) 2 Reverse tool NOT checked. 3 Top turret 4 Clockwise Spindle 5 Left active spindle So the pictures fit the actual machine. Do you choose these and get m3?? Also check Job SU/Turret-Spindle settings? I dont usually check these cause it always works right. In version7 this stuff never worked right. 9. You are using lathe8?? I had trouble with this ccw/cw in ver7. Single spindle!! But ver8 cured the problem in tool setup. So I dont know about 2 spindles but your post should be adjusted to the tool setup so you will get a consistent result as you are about to do. Look for more answers here from others. Andy
  10. No Jay, I think he means the cassette tape no floppy times!
  11. Ok, I tried a few things and this is what I found. In Lathe8.11: 1. Start up lathe 2. File/Get/ and take note of the default directory (Call it A) , then go to another directory ,say B, and open a file. 3. Now do File/Get or Save/ and notice the directory (It is back to A!) In MILL8 doing the same steps 1-3 it stays in B! Why are MILL and LATHE different in this regard? As far as setdir goes: LATHE and MILL operated differently. In Mill when I SETDIR to B the mc8, nci, nc, communication paths are all B furthermore they all stay that way throughout the session regardless of the fact that the default directory was A when Mill is first opened. (this is good!) In Lathe, however, when I SETDIR to B when it was default A, funny things happen. When I try post an NC file the nci directory will divert to A. So I "operations/options/change nci path/ to B" ,and finish posting (the NC directory is ok "B"). I then go to the main menu and invoke file get or save and it is in the A directory!!!! this WILL drive one up the Wall. The only solution I could find for this was to go to config and set and save these paths permanently. Then all the paths worked properly. However what good is SETDIR in Lathe if you really can't use it? James, I did change y to n no help. Greg, I tried mplfan, same problem. Jay, I tried what you said and lost 3 customers.
  12. I'm trying different senarios and will report very soon. (my customers keep distracting me ) Andy
  13. I use chook setdir to set my path when I am doing a job. In Lathe I open an MC8 file in directory A. Then I use setdir to A. This works fine for file save, file get, communications, etc. But, after I post the NC file the path is changed to Directory B for file get, save, communications. In Mill, setdir path is not changed when I Post an NC file. (much preferred) Is Lathe supposed to do this? Or did I miss a switch? Thanks, Andy
  14. Hi Kevin in MI, This forum couldn't be better. I read these threads everyday. I learn new stuff everyday. For me this has been an extremely valuable learning and information tool. I get stuck, I post a question, and sometimes have an answer in 1 hour!!!!!! What a deal. Today I read a thread and found another Mori lathe user. Now we can share info and help. Have fun, Andy
  15. I'm going to try that, as I have time. Thanks, Andy
  16. As Kathyric said, but to add to it, you would leave your stack of cards at the computer center (if they were still in the shoebox), and come back the next day and if you were lucky they would have run the cards and have a printout for you. But usually the printout was very short and you would have to find your error, repunch the appropriate cards, re-submit, and wait another day. This might go on 3 or more times and eventually they would hand you the printout that was longer than 2 lines and you were finally happy. I had forgotten those days until Kathyric brought it up. Modern methods are a breeze compared to the good old days! Andy
  17. It's really not that bad! About 17 years ago my youngest turned 18. That was the year I opened a savings account and it actually grew. Patience?
  18. Lathe 8 is a dream. I absolutely love it. Great improvement over Lathe 7. We work with alot of different materials in Mill and feeds and speeds get challenging at times. We have a different library for every material and that makes for a lot of tools but it works very well. The most challenging CAD we do is when we spline a free digitized curve and then machine it and then have the customer vary it slightly. We end up tweaking the curve and attempt to get tangency in the geometry for a smooth machined curve. Of course, in our case, this is 2D. I imagine in 3D this would be even tougher. But it is all fun and challenging. Andy
  19. Does anyone know how to accomplish this: I have Lathe1.pst and Lathe2.pst. I have Lathe1.set and Lathe2.set Puzzle to solve: When I post the set files I must first go to config to choose the appropriate set file before posting it. Is there someway to associate the Lathe1pst with the Lathe1.set and the same with Lathe2 so I would not have to go to config every time to check which set file set up sheet is active? I just remembered one solution: (Thank you Dave!) Operations/Post/choose .set to post then post. Anyone know another solution? Thanks, Andy
  20. Problem solved! Mark at CNC found me video drivers (a little older drivers) that fixed the black cursor problem. Windows ME Asus GeForce2 MX-400 Card Installing the driver was a little unnerving because there was no exe install file and I had to go through Control Panel/Display/Settings/advanced/change etc. etc. and it gave me warnings and files confirmed one at a time (about 12 files). Anyhow, I hope something else doesn't crop up because of this. Thank you all for your help. Andy
  21. Michael, and all. So I uninstalled MC8 using add/remove programs and installed MC8 and still have black cursor. ??????? Well, next is goodbye ME and hello W2K . A little afraid to install W2K. Will I have to re-install all my programs and how complicated will it all get? Thanks, Andy
  22. Michael I guess I will try it then. I'll finish my work first. Hope it works. Thanks, Andy
  23. No, I did not completely uninstall MC. I just reinstalled which probably did very little. I was afraid to uninstall and lose all my configurations. But maybe I wouldn't lose them.
  24. Well, I downloaded Detonator 3 and installed it and my cursor is still black. Now I am going to reinstall MC8 Andy Re installing MC Did not help. This video card is an ASUS GeForce2 MX-400 nvidia Windows ME I find it very difficult to work in any other thing than a black background. Any other suggestions?? Thanks, Andy [ 08-17-2001: Message edited by: Andy ]
