i totally agree with thad and brendan, i work in a tool and die shop to, and a2/d2 is very common. run your speeds and feeds the correct way and you will have no problem, just like cutting 1018 or whatever.one thing though we do alot of hard cutting and you should try and cut hard d2 after heat treat.......motty

  7. if i'm reading your resposne correctly smirob, what i do is use a pocket program to rough out a pocket, then a fin. bottom program, then i will use a contour program with cutter comp which is in my version. i'm using mill 8.1.1. i have only been programing for 3 months so i'm sure there's other and better way's.
  8. i agree with svo, i would just relieve the skank by about .oo2 a side, i think this will save you time and having to buy cutters. finally a question i can answer, where i have acually done this.

hello everyone. i have written before and have had good luck with your responses. i am still really raw at this stuff only 2 months now. i don't even have any answers to anyones questions thats how dumb this guy is. anyway i have another question to ask.i have been getting geometry with little flats instead of a smooth line for my arcs.i have been playing with this but they still come out as little flats of the mill. if anyone has the time to give me a han it will be greatly appreciated to know end. one day i hope to have a response to some questions, but you guys and gals are way over my head. ok i know this is long so i will say thanks and be gone. everyone have a good or night. motty
  16. good luck mr. bond. this a crummy thing for them to be doing at this time a year. sounds pretty petty of them. merry xmas........motty [ 12-13-2002, 12:59 PM: Message edited by: motty ]
  17. i'm milling an open pocket with a 1.5 button cutter that has a .236 rad inserts. the problem is the pocket has a .380 rad on the bottom.what would be the best way to mill this pocket and leave stock for the .380 rad. i also have to go back and finish the walls.
  18. i have remaching down, but i have a pocket with multiple corners, meaning the pocket is not square. when i do the remachineing it wants to clip to of the finished edges and it goes back and forth to do the corners.
  19. i'm still new to this and i have a problem with contour milling. i have a orofile to mill so i made a pocket program to mill out all the stock,ok that works real good. now when i go in and make my finish wall program it seems to screw up my pocket program i just did.
  20. thanks for the help. i finally figuered it out. my geometry was at different levels. i didn't translate my geometry when i did my z zero. thanks again
  21. hello, im new at mastercam.i can't seem to get a pocket path to work. i can get most of it tangent, but i can't seem to get the rest of it tangent. when i go into chain it looks real good until it stops. no matter what i do i can't get the rest tangent. any help will be great. motty
