  1. Motty, So you did'nt let V9.1 do the default install, but you created a new folder called mcamv91 , and sent the install to that?
  2. Took (still taking) a self-paced class at a local community college...Learned vast amounts above and beyond the scope of the class due to great instructor, and me asking tons and tons of questions. Not to mention the tips that we all are getting from the forum!
  3. Let's see.....prototype cases & chassis for MP4 media players (know around here as the "worlds- most-expensive mini tv's) ...and parts for some prototype snowboard bindings...
  4. Just got ours today...I've been running it out a school here for a few weeks. What's the consensus, fresh install, or just on top of V9? Havn't had a chance to even open the package yet.. Funny how I made time to hit the forum though!
  5. That works allright, but I've always had it default back to having tools numbered sequentially. NOW I think if I perform Jean-Simon's process of quote: screen configure-nc settings-operation defaults-save and then go in job set-up in the operation manager I should get it to default to non-sequential numbering. Thanks for helping me think this through!
  6. Ok, since we're on this topic: I'm after something similar to what Jeremiah has going. I want my tool# to match my H & T values. It accesses the tool parameters to get the H & T's, but defaults to numbering the tools sequentially as you select them in your operations. to quote myself. quote: I selected this tool first, but I don't want it called out as T1, fu(%#$%er!! Any way around this other than post tweaks? Another good one for the quote list: quote: Upon interview, the passengers on the plane that crashed said, "we were killed instantly".
  7. Thanks again Trevor! It's those little things!
  8. Just a little annoyance I'm after..When regenerating a remachining toolpath (pockets in particular), you get in the cycle of: "machinable area for rough tool">enter> "machinable area for finish tool">enter> "remaining stock">enter> etc. etc. for each pocket. When you've got like a few hundred pockets your remachining a bunch of times, it would go way faster if you did'nt have to lay on that enter key...If it would just "run", instead being more in a "step" fashion. Yeah, at least you hit esc at the end when it backplots the regen... Any ideas as to just to get remachine to run, without all the enters?
  9. Hey Tony, I've been wondering about that Hurco mini-mill, it's a relatively new model, right? We've got a Haas mini here, that all in all is a decent machine...However this is the year 2003, where 99$ cell phones have more Mb of storage than a $XX,XXX Haas mill. Not to mention a Haas ethernet card for $3,000! I really wish they would update the control. I feel like it's a system akin to NASA. Where they are so entrenched in 1980's (and previous) technology that they are looking for long obsolete shuttle parts on Ebay! Electronics, that is. Back to my point, how is that Hurco, and any other machine with a "modern" control? I like the sounds of that Hurco with decent memory and I/O features. From past experience with some older Hurcos, I've found the iron to be pretty decent too. P.S. I do like our Haas mini mill, but I also like to bitch! hahahahaha
  10. Sounds like we need to create a "sub-forum" "Mcam Users and their Motorcycles"! It's interesting that machinists gravitate towards motorbikes. I like my Ducati because of it's interesting engineering and it gives me something to tinker with, sometimes a little too much though. Your absolutly correct Rick! Rekd, My "home track" is Portland International Raceway. My main class is Open Classic Superbike. I also ride at Spokane alot, and sometimes Seattle. Never been down to Willow, but would love to ride the thing. Watched a bunch of races at Laguna. I'll certainly take you up on your offer for some good riding in SD. Likewise if you ever return to the Portland area. Yeah, it's good to lay all the political crap aside and realize how much alike we all are.
  11. Thanks guys! Took a bit a trial and error, but I've got my plotter settings dialed. Judging from the hardware transmission options in screen>configure>plotter settings, I've always assumed that the plot functions were for transmitting to large scale plotters (full size!). Using the "windows drivers" is the key to utilizing a regular printer. thanks again
  12. I've run into this a few times, except now it is driving me crazy...I'm trying to print a hardcopy at full scale...just to make a simple template. Eg. I want to print out a 5" circle.. I've tried generating my geometry and NOT zooming in or out, and that certainly doesn't work. Any ideas?
  13. Street bike- Ducati 900ss cr = Classic + torque Race Bike- Honda cbr600f2 = Cheap + disposable
  14. Hey Karl, Let us know if lowering the baud rate solves the problem. We usually run it at 38xxx, over a 20' cable. Hopefully that will save you from getting gouged by Haas. It totally appals me the price that Haas wants for replacement parts. Most of the crap in the controls is from the mid 80's anyway! It is a joke that they sell a few Mb of ram for thousands of dollars, while my 99$ cell phone has twice that! Hmmm, maybe I should try converting my cell phone into a Haas controller!!!...hahahaha
  15. Not to hi-jack this post, but I'm anxiously waiting for these damp days to end here in Oregon...Motorcycle tires stick better to dry roads! Cheers to all the motor-bikers...
  16. How much free space (%) is there in your controller memory? You might try and open up as much space as possible by saving/deleting other programs stored in memory. If for some strange reason system memory is related to the dnc buffer. My 2 cents...
  17. Thanks again everyone- Surface, I know what your saying about the tip being overground/offset a bit, and your right. However I have yet to find a tool manufacturer that gives that spec. So I was trying to treat it like a .000 tip dia. Kathy, I put your exact tool spec's in, and it will run. But if I change the angle to anything other than 45, I get an error-"tool tip diameter cannot be zero". I think I've got a happy medium running now, Chamfer tool, 15 degree, .125 diameter, .001 tip diameter. Any other thoughts, feel free to add. Thanks Again!
  18. Thanks for the input everyone, I figured out what the deal is, but still have some questions... I'm using an engraving cutter, that comes to a point. For my tool parameters I set "taper mill", 30 degree, tip dia. .001...That was giving me nothing in verify..I changed the tip diameter up to .003, and now I get a reasonable verify. I've also experimented by selecting tool profile as a spot-drill, or countersink, thinking that both these tools come to a zero tip diameter, and are tapered- Knowing that engraving needs a tapered tool. I guess my question is- how do you spec a tool with theoretical zero tip diameter? That's what my engraving cutter is after all... Thanks all.
  19. I'm finally getting a chance to use our engraving add on. It backplots just fine, however I get nothing in verify. Anyone else use engraving, and is this a usual occurence? Thanks in advance everyone. Oh yeah, notice how I havn't mentioned any o/t issues in this post!! hahaha
  20. Yeah, the g12/13 are macros for the Haas...Kathy, it sounds like you might be used to programming at the machine, because the Haas quick code makes it easy to pocket with those g12/13's. Previous my mastercam experience, I used to do the same.... Welcome to the forum!
  21. I have experienced the exact same way Kathy has, and resolved it in the same manner...re-open the file and everything seems to be there again. It happens irregularly (maybe once a month or so, at most), with no discernable pattern of preceding events. Just assumed it's one of those MC mysteries, but am curious none the less.
  22. Well, I guess we've come to a concensus of a sort...this subject has been run out, on this forum at least. I too hope that no one has taken personal offense to this sometimes heated debate...for the process of "debating" is an integral part of what it means to be a proud American, and feathers will get ruffled. We may not agree with each other's opinon's, but I cherish the abilty for us to share them. For now I feel the important point we agree upon is this war comes to a quick end, with minimal loss of life.... over-and-out, CMR
  23. Mark, Good to see yet another who cares for our country deeply enough to examine the obscured and underlying direction we are headed. I have been reading a bit about the New American Century doctrine, and also Wolfowitz's Defense Stratagy Guideline, dating back to 1992. Instead of going into the long of it here, everyone should read it for themselves... http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/sh...hemes/1992.html but just to spark your interst- quote: Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz has been at the center of Pentagon strategic planning in both Bush administrations. A hawk on the use of U.S. military power, Wolfowitz took a lead in drafting the 1992 "Defense Planning Guidance" -- a set of guidelines on America's military posture toward the world. The draft said that containment was an old idea, a relic of the cold war. It advocated that America should maintain military strength beyond challenge and use it to preempt provocations from rogue states with weapons of mass destruction. And it stated that, if necessary, the U.S. should be prepared to act alone. Leaked to the press, Wolfowitz's draft was rewritten and softened by then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney. Not sure if you've seen any of this PBS Frontline series regarding the Middle East/Iraq, but it is something that both sides, prowar and antiwar, should watch. It is very neutral in presention, and provides fascinating information. Incredibly in depth, starting with Hussein as a child. It provides points and perspective which would help both sides of this debate understand each other...
  24. Ha! Same link CAMmando! On some level our brains come together!
  25. Kathy, here is a rather long-winded and somewhat enlightening description of international law...however it seems as if there may be no clear answer... http://www.tzemachmusic.com/fyi/docs/beres/saddam.htm
