  1. I use my real name all day. Using a handle allows me to live via a super-hero alter ego. The Avatar system does a nice job of filtering some pirates, too. Sincerely, Christopher Michael Rizzo aka, "CMR"
  2. Yeah, What they all said...WELCOME! The Lin and Shuie (spelling) book is probably the worst out there. Many errors & not very explicit. I would'nt waste any $$ on their books...The Mcam factory books are pretty good, IMOP.
  3. Thx Roger, I don't have the post guide (yet another book I've been meaning to purchase)...I've done some post modifying/butchering myself and can make my way around the thing a bit, but by no means know what I'm doing. Any help would be appreciated. I've also noticed that my Haas (circa 2000) will indeed accept long comments, EXCEPT in the tool defination callout. I have poured over the controller and manual in search of a setting that precipates the alarm, but have found nothing thus far. If their is an alarm, there HAS TO be a threshold setting somewhere!
  4. Hey Roger, I've ran into the 30 character limit on my Haas, mainly with long tool names being output. The controller will just alarm out with anything larger than that...no matter how many or how few operations. If you don't mind me asking, how did you limit the posted output to 30 characters? I'm using a slightly modified MPHaas. Thanks
  5. I'm late getting in on this topic too! Just did some thread milling of my own for the first time last week. Pretty darn easy, and I did some large internal metric threads. A good resource for tooling and other questions is scientific cutting tools If you have a single point tool, it allows you to run different threads (within a certain range), while a multi-tooth thread mill will only produce it's designed pitch.
  6. I've got a bunch on order. I guess the the HTI10's just came out within the past year for the Aqx's. Thanks again, Mayday
  7. You just got those machines, did'nt you Crazy? What's does Haas say about that?
  8. I don't have much time to chat now, but the rs-232 is pretty easy on the Haas. "Conversational is so-so, Mastercam is way more "conversational to me . Plus there are so many Haas' out there, help is a few mouse clicks away if you do run into issues!
  9. I've had the same experience... I just tried it very briefly, and had a file come in with all sorts of missing bodies, holes, etc. I hav'nt had a chance to mess around with it, but am planning on contacting my dealer for a little advice. One thing I did notice, is that it does'nt list supporting some SW features, like lofts. Was wondering what exactly "not supporting" means? That could cause a big issue with my files.
  10. This will be my ONLY post on this thread....here's a resume for y'all to compare. quote: G. BUSH RESUME -I was arrested in Kennebunkport, Maine, in 1976 for driving under the influence of alcohol. 11. Great, thanks Mayday! Yeah, if they are similar to those super-polished uncoated inserts that we've got in our ASX facemill, then they kick some serious a$$!.
  12. I've got a 1" AQX Mitsubishi 2 flute/insert endmill the we used on alot of cast iron, I'd like to hog some aluminum with her now. None of the Mitsubishi tech info lists any insert grades for aluminum available for this cutter. Mitsubishi makes a great uncoated insert for a facemill we've also got, and it runs great in aluminum... but they don't make the same insert for the AQX endmill. Anyone else out there running the AQX's?? I'm running the standard vp15tf steel grade insert in aluminum, at about 1400 sfm, .004 chip load. Tha's all the Mini-Mill will take!
  13. That mitee bite wax works pretty well, and easy to remove from your part. The double sided tape works pretty well too, just make sure it's not to thick or squishy. I've also used 3M Super 99 or 77 spray adhesive, which works WAY to well, and makes part removal a real pain...sometimes it turns into a part maiming situation.
  14. I cut a quick 3d demo part and engraved my local guys shop name on it. He's was totally blown away, and thrilled that I made something cool for him... and now understands why I ask for the hardware I do! He considers me his buddy now, and with that all the REALLY good pricing...and a limitless free supply of surplus cat 5, used mice, keyboards, monitors, etc....great for the filthy DNC machines!
  15. I always prefer buying from my local guy. Good NAME BRAND components (not bulk no-name parts), fantastic service, and the ability to get just what I need...and not all the other junk that every other mfg. (Dell especially) load onto their performance machines....I don't need a DVD burner package, video editor, etc. etc. etc. I DO need just an a$$ load of RAM and video card! Given the option, I feel better supporting the "local guy", rather than some big faceless corporation. I know the money I spend at his shop does at least something for the local economy (economics 101- the multiplier effect)....he pays rent, local taxes, employee wages, etc. It's bad enough with all our $$ going overseas for most of the components, it's a shame sending more to generic megacorps in SomeOtherTown, USA.....The taxes they pay are not going into MY local (crumbling) school district... How about that Dell "customer service"? THAT'S even overseas too! Sorry for the O/T rant, just my 2 cents!
  16. quote: Axis indicator and WCS indicator disapear when shaded Gee, I thought it was just another Mastercam thing. I'm running an Gforce 4200ti 128mb, and have always had slightly quirky graphics isses...especially displaying the axis with ALT F9 things get goofy and jumpy. A neat site that has some Invidia utilities and downloads- www.3dgurus.com
  17. Wow, the death of American manufactuing does'nt get much more symbolic than Starrett moving overseas.... quote: a regulatory filing, L.S. Starrett Co. said it would close anAlum Bank, Pa., plant and move the work to the Dominican Republic. We may also have to dig up that old thread about "Why to Move Your Business to the Dominican Republic"
  18. I'm getting in on this topic a little late... quote: keep all solid chains in a particular solid body automaticlly going to their own level. Yeah, what he said!!!! (Murlin) How about keeping source wireframe safe on it's own level, it's too easy to inadvertently modifiy the wireframe, which completly ruins your solid. Or how about having a mask automatically set on the source wire? I like Solidworks' feature tree, and being able to easily track down and see the and driving wireframe.
  19. Sorry it took me a day to get back to y'all. It indeed looks like my crash is entirely missed by 9.1. I did run verify on that particular operation tonight at my class (running sp2), and it certainly looked different than on my machine with regular 9.1! I guess I need to make some time and upgrade my rig to SP2...Up until now, 9.1 has been just fine, and I did'nt want to "rock the boat". thanks
  20. Thanks for looking at it Iskander, I ran that collision check too, and sure enough it did validate a collison. It is a nice feature to have, BUT the tool totally rapids through a major portion of the part, and verify shows absolutley nothing of it. Is this one for CNC to check out? I could send them the program AND the actual part, WITH the tool that rapided through it!
  21. Sorry, it's in the MC9 folder on the FTP. If you step>backplot through the last toolpath, it's very near the end of that tool path. thx
  22. I've got a part here that has MULTIPLE rapid moves right through the part. It's on a 2d Pocket facing routine. You see the crash very clearly in backplot, but verify does NOT show the massive gouge that would result....? I'll upload it to the FTP. It's the very last toolpath on file WATERPUMP4.zip P.S. I'm using WCS in the file.
  23. NOW your pic's are working Jack! Of course now your going to have to tell me more about this motor! quote: they are from fifteen years ago for a 6cyl Honda motorcycle used as a professional strip machine in Ontario. Drag bike it looks like? 15 years ago a Honda 6 cyl. would have been a CBX...
  24. Thx fellas. I just spent an hour with the manual, and found no such reference to Alarm # 244. No settings or parameters.... There has to be a value setting somewhere to trigger an alarm! Then again, which came first, the chicken or the egg?
