  1. I had the gouge settings turned off in X8 originally. But I did try just about every parameter change that I could with no luck. For what it's worth X8 is touchy. I regenerated the tool path in a dif. area and guess what, no good.
  2. Actually I have tried both. Well X6 and X7, worked fine. Out of curiosity I brought the file back into X8, regenerated it and it appears to be undercutting now. ?????
  3. I have been trying to get a part programmed using Surface Finish Contour and a lollipop tool to reach some undercuts and found out that it does not work in X8. I went back to X6 and it worked, I will try X7 next. This is the first time for me trying this type of tool path. I was told that undercuts can only be done in Surface Finish Contour and Flowline. Anyone else have any problems. I thought that the tool path might follow the shape of the surfaces in the z plane as well. I see that the z stays vertical instead of ramping during cuts, creating a bit of air cuts. ??
  4. I apologize for the late reply, been crazy busy. Thank you for explaining the scaling factor. Good information and well put. rchipper
  5. Any containment boundries would need scaled as well correct? I have not used the shrink factor for scaling. If I need to add .005 per wall in a cavity,(shrink it), would that be the shrink factor value? And what if I need to remove stock from the cavity, (open it up) , -.005? I appreciate your input, thank you very much, rchipper
  6. I am getting into working with solids I have minimal experience and have a question. I cut a sample part for a customer and they say the cavity needs to be closed in by .005. I used Surface Rough Pocket to rough the cavity and Surface Finish Contour to finish it. How would I adjust the cuts for the customers needs?
  7. As you can see I don't need any help from Jay with my spelling. If you consider Orange County local then, yes I am. I am swamped right now but will get in touch with you Jay, as soon as I get time. Thank you for getting back to me. You all crack me up, keep up the good work. BTW where is the spell checker? rchipper
  8. I saw you at the X7 show but didnt realize who you were at the time. I am fairly new to Mastercam and cuold use some advice. I hoped to introduce myself at the X8 rollout not knowing that the shows were seperated this year it did not work out. I am working hard every day to improve but have some general questions on how get BETTER, FASTER, more effficient . Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Respectfully, rchipper
  9. Colin, Thank you for taking the time to explain this. Aside from the post dialog I understand what you are saying. Now I need to practice, practice, practice. Once again, thanks to all of you for the support. rchipper
  10. Thank you very much for the lesson. It is more clear to me now. Respectfully, rchipper
  11. Ahhh. Then what I had as the top would become the back, the back would be the bottom and the front is now the top plane. Right? So I rotated the part, and re chained the geo and set the new planes, aside from the top reversing the tool path 180 deg. It looked ok. Question. Why is it when I set wcs's and go to views the part flips around 180 deg.? Oh boy.
  12. This is a sample part. I am not understanding the planes and views. What I was looking for is for the "top",(with hole config.) side to be C0, the "back" side to be C270 and the "front" side to be at C90. With the tool approaching from the back side, perpendicular to the Y axis, have I established the wrong position for the part to begin with? The code I am getting has the back as C0, top is C90 and front at C180. I am using the generic C-Y axis slant bed lathe post as the custom Post I have for this machine is no longer working, had several programmers here before me. Another issue I need to deal with, EEEEESH. LATHE Y AXIS 8-4-14.MCX-7
  13. Hello, Still being fairly new to Mastercam, I have very limited experience with y-axis programming. I did receive feedback from the forums a couple of years ago regarding C and Y stuff. I have not done any Y axis work since then and I having a memory laps. I did do a search for it but I did not find anything. Would someone out there be willing get me pointed in the right direction and refresh my memory. I have a solid model of a sample part should there be anyone up for it. I tried a couple of tool paths but the code is not outputting moves. Am I in the wrong plane? wrong direction, wcs? I will keep working at it.
  14. I did try that and there was no change. I think what happened is I had imported the operations into a copied part file. I ended up going to "Edit selected operations" then, "Change NC file name", and changed the name. I also changed the program number. That fixed the problem. It was probably looking for the imported tool info that was no longer valid after I changed the names. I'm learning. Thank you for your input. rchipper
  15. Hello, Does anybody know why, when I modify a tools name in the, (Define Tool) parameter page it drops out when I post the program? I renumbered the tools and it output fine but when I modify the name this is what I get. (*BEFORE UPDATING TOOL INFO*) (USING MASTERCAM X7) ( TOOL 1 = CHATTERFREE_ECI-E4L375-750/1.25C37CF ) ( TOOL 2 = 1-1/4 DRILL ) ( TOOL 3 = 1/2 BULL ENDMILL .06 RAD-#5383 ) ( TOOL 4 = SAE J514 R20 PORT TOOL ) ( TOOL 5 = 1/4" X 3/4" X .030R 4F TIALN CARBIDE END MILL,#7030 ) ( TOOL 6 = 1/4" X 1/2" X 2" 4F TIALN CARBIDE END MILL,#5888 ) ( TOOL 7 = 1/16" X 1/8" 4F CARBIDE BALL END MILL,#6859 ) (*AFTER UPDATING TOOL INFO*) (USING MASTERCAM X7) ( TOOL 1 = ) ( TOOL 2 = ) ( TOOL 3 = ) ( TOOL 4 = ) ( TOOL 5 = ) ( TOOL 6 = 1/4" X 3/4" X .030R 4F TIALN CARBIDE END MILL,#7030 ) ( TOOL 7 = 1/16" X 1/8" 4F CARBIDE BALL END MILL,#6859 )
  16. I am also having trouble. Had to create a NEW account for the new site, then when I tried to log in I got this. Your account is not authorized to access the Mastercam Forums. 17. Very nice. Thank you for the video. I will report back after giving it a try. Thanks again, rchipper
  18. Greetings, I hope this is acceptable to post in this forum. Has anyone used the lathe dynamic roughing? What were the results? I have a project coming up, (OD groove 4.44" wide x 1.2" deep), and I am excited to try this but there are resistant individuals that I work with that are afraid of change. I have made leaps and bounds here using the dynamic milling ops. Nothing but amazing. I want to continue to reduce the fear factor so we can move forward. Anyhow, your input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, rchipper
  19. OK. You are right, I totally agree with you. Safety First! Thanks.
  20. I applied what you all shared with me to a new part that I am programing with good results. Very nice! I have another question. Can I suppress, (get rid) of the Z15. that is being output after the second G offset # for each tool.? Since the G98 from the previuos canned cycle returns to the initial plane Z15., for indexing clearance, the second Z15. should not be needed, right? I poked around and tried changing different parameters and values but, ? N100 G17 G40 G49 G80 G90 ( TOOL 1 = 1/2 2FLT ENDMILL-GBF#8816 ) T1 M6 S2000 M3 G0 G90 G58 X0. Y0. B90. G43 Z15. 21. Thank you all very much! I see what I what you have done to correct my work. Sorry for getting snotty, I thought I may have done something wrong when I didn't get any replies for a while. Once again I learned something from this. Thanks
  22. Crazy^Millman, Here is a z2g. Please let me know if it comes through ok. I am still a bit new. Thank you for your time. TRANSLATE ROTATION TEST 1-10-14.Z2G
  23. I am trying to learn to transform, rotate tool paths. I have the first two tools looking ok when posted but I do not know how to get the B code to come out correctly. The first side should be at B90(G54), with the second side being B270(G55), and lastly B180(G57) for the last two tools. What am I missing? Do I have my plane set incorrectly? rchipper ROTATION TEST 1 1-9-14.MCX-7 ROTATION TEST.txt
  24. Very cool. Brandon, The example that I mentioned I found was actually from your post in October when, djstedman sent out an attachment showing a sample. I have not yet looked into applying this to my application. Thank you for offering to help that is great. I will follow up as soon as I can to let you know. Todd, Thank you as well. I will look into the C-hook. Unfortunately, I am having issues with Mastercam and the server here. Hole other can of worms, verify can not find C-hook for simulation, blah, blah. Anyhow, your time and suggestions are greatly appreciated. rchipper
