  1. See http://www.emastercam.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/000942.html Lets not start this again here folks...OK?
  2. Chris is right. There is no way to specify different depth cuts for rough and finish side passes. That has been a request for a long time (since at least version 4 I think) as well as the ability to make 1 rough pass leaving stock on the side AND the floor, and make 1 finish pass taking both to net. I think the former would allow for the later, but neither is currently possible...Sigh.
  3. Version 8 works the same as version 7 in this respect. The difference is that the installed default for 7 was "Add 40" whereas the installed default for 8 is "Add 0".
  4. Lou is correct except for Surface-Rough-Pocket which will give arc motion whether you filter or not. The only way to insure linear only motion is through the linarc variable in the post.
  5. Is this surface contour? If so, see my post under the "Cut levels" thread
  6. If you define points at each z level you want to cut at, you can use the cut depths-critical depths to override the stepdown amount. Depending on how many depth cuts you're talking about this may or may not be an efficient way of going about it. Be aware that you also have to deifine the highest and lowest depths as well.
  7. Bryan is correct. Remember that almost all commands can be accessed at any time with buttons and hot keys. In fact you can use the same trick for hardcopies of Verify (truesolid only). You do have to have the system in "Shaded mode" which means you have to create a surface, turn on shading, then delete the surface (if desired). Run Verify in truesolids mode, and when you're ready, hit your hardcopy button (or hot key, or hit F10 and select File-Hardcopy). It also helps if you move the control box to the top of the screen.
  8. The problems with running NCI files through a post instead of programming from scratch is that the .NCI file may have misc values, canned cycle calls, and drill parameters that are not supported or used by your current post. The M0's sound like a canned text issue. The only way to get rid of that is to take the canned text calls out of the post. Also you should run editnci.dll to check on the misc values and make sure they match for your current post.
  9. You're using an older post right? Your post has a string select table to output the operation (2d-contour, pocket, etc.) Previous versions stopped at operation #16, but 8.0 added facing (#19). Open up your post and search for opcode. You will see a list of operations with something like sop1, sop2, etc, add lines to make sure it goes up to sop19 Facing, and you should be all set.
  10. You can't use T/C planes for turning ops. You pretty much have to start over, however, I saw a c-hook at Westec that flipped the part for you and mantained the boundaries from the first side operations. It was called transfer or something like that. It's not on the install disk, but someone from CNC was using it. You might try e-mailing [email protected] and asking about it.
  11. If you are using any work offsets other than the default (G55-59 G54.1P1...)you need to make sure that you set them for EVERY toolpath. If you do 2 contours toolpaths, the 2nd one will have the same settings as the first, but if you do any other toolpath, it has its own set of defaults, so you need to check the work offset variable for each path. Also, if you leave the variable at -1, Mastercam automatically increments the variable (starting at 0 then 1,2,3,...) for each successive toolplane.
  12. Never mind [This message has been edited by gstephens (edited 05-07-2001).]
  13. Mbowling: The 8.1.1 patch only works on the officail v8.1 release which was 1-26-01. The .exe's dated 1-11-01 were on a beta site/dealer only pre-release disc. If you never got the official v8.1 release disc, contact your dealer and have them send you one. [This message has been edited by gstephens (edited 05-07-2001).]
  14. Mbowling: Also make sure you have the 8.1 dated 1-26-01 instead of 1-11-01.
  15. It should only be greyed out when you are entering the parameters from Ops manager after completing the toolpath. You can only use that feature the frirst time you run the toolpath.
  16. When you put the CD in, you get a screen that has 3 install choices. If you choose "Install Mastercam". When the second selection screen comes up, you have the option to uninstall completely, reinstall, install into a new directory, or repiar an existing installation. This is true only if you already have Mastercam installed already
  17. Have you run the repair off of the install CD? This fixes quite a few crash problems.
  18. If you are interested, I have a Microsoft Powerpoint presentation that explains calculating 5-axis vector motion in the post processor. If you are going to modify your own post, you probably want to take a look. E-mail me and I can forward it to you.
  19. Win2K is the operating system that CNC Software uses in house which means that all development is now done in the 2000 environment; therefore, it should be the OS of choice.
  20. Has anyone figured out what extra files are necessary for running the V81 Demo in a fresh Win 98 (not 2nd Ed)? There are required Visual C drivers that are not added with the installation. If you load the full Mastercam software first, the demo works fine. Thanks
  21. There is no way (that I know of) to disable the warning. You can get around the problem by editing the post so that the work offset is handled differently (misc integers) and leave the work offset in the t/c plane window at -1.
