  1. Hello, I am using Mastercam X4 M3 and i am trying to create additional surfaces. is there a way to do it fast? right now i am picking the geometry for the surfaces but it is very time consuming. Any ideas to speed this up? I am working 12 hours a day plus 6 on saturday so i will check this on my phone. Thanks for your help or ideas?
  2. Hello, I am using Mastercam X4 MU3 and i was wondering if there is a way to associate or groupd geometery together. For example, if the is 2 boxes on the screen say 5 inches apart is there a way to make them move together? Say i captured one and transformed it to a new location, I also want the other one to move the same amount with out me having to do it. Is it possible?
  3. Robk, Those setup sheets are great. Did you make them in excel?
  4. I always make sure i stay in contact with the personnel in the shop. The setup/leadman and operators. I get information from them of how the think when they are doing thier job and i try to keep that in mind when i am making documentation. Just because we programmers expect a machine to be setup a certain way does not mean that will happen. Keep the floor happy and they will keep you happy.
  5. Chris, Colin, You are both correct. I tried to bring in a 2009 inventor file into mastercam using different file formats and the transfer worked great but Mastercam didnt see the hole as even existing. I did check the box and it didnt show a hole on the list. I would assume if we upgraded to a newer version of Inventor and Mastercam they could be integrated? I know Solidworks does this and i did use it before about 3 years ago and it was great. Both of you would know this, what it the percentage of people using Solidworks and Inventor?
  6. I know our software is old, does anybody use seperate software anymore or is Mastercam integrated into solidworks or inventer?
  7. Hello, I admit i have not used this feature in Mastercam before but i am trying the FBM. I have Inventor 9 and Mastercam X4. If i create a cube in Inventor and tap a hole should i be able to have Mastercam open the IPT file and recognize the hole the same way that inventor does? or is there another way to do it? Thanks
  8. The problem has been solved. The Mazak service person re-aligned the Y AXIS and it is good now. Thank you to everybody who replied.
  9. Your assumptions were correct. I am machining the hole with C AXIS at 0 deg and the milling head at 90 Deg with the positioning of the milling head at say Z .5 and y at Zero. I am drilling a hole at this position and using a end mill to circle interpolate a larger hole. I have not put the finished hole on a CMM but when i use a plug gage the hole has the characteristics of being round to a couple of .0001. This is almost a brand new machine we started using it in March of this year. We have checked everything and it looks good. The tools i am using are not the best so we are starting to look that way now. I am going to do some testing on the tools today but we have seen this issue on 2 different style parts. A little history. I tried to do a spindle transfer to machine the parts i need but the tolerance of .0005 cylindricity between bores was not working. it was running out a couple of thousands. For a short term fix (to get the parts done) i decided to machine the complete part on the main spindle by rotating the main spindle 180 degrees to machine both ends figuring that both ends would line up but it doesnt. it runs out from .001 to .005. this is just from rotating the spindle 180 deg. Thats how we got to this point and we cant figure out why this is happening. I need to make parts and the machine has been down for a week.
  10. Hello, If i could ask i need help with our Mazak Integrex 300S. The problem i am having is i have a piece of round aluminum stock in head #1 and i mill 2 flats say about 1.500 inches thick. I then drill through the aluminum then use a 3/8 diameter endmill to circle interpolate a hole through the flattened stock. so far everything is good. I then put a indicator in the milling head and position it over the center of the hole and check the runout. The runout is maybe .0001. Good so far. Now i rotate the spindle to 180 degrees and check the hole runout and it is a couple of thousands. Mazak service and i have been fighting this for a week. Mazak service has checked everything and it is running straight. any ideas what could be causing this?
  11. What i do is pick the points in the order i want to drill.

Span, Thank you. I had to uncheck "center on axis" and it worked fine.

Hello, I am trying to simulate a mill machining operation in Mastercam X4. The stock is a round bar of 1.25 diameter. I want the bottom of the bar to be Z zero so that is how the model is on the screen. I set up the stock the same way so they are on top of each other. The problem is when i run the verify the stock drops down so the center of the bar is on Z zero instead of the bottom of the bar. How do i get this to stop?
  14. Yes it is for one program to download and machine different operations. We put it together manually now, i was wondering if it was possible to met mastercam to do it a simple way. i guess the easy way would be have the sater and end of programs and manually past them to the program that was output. Thank you all for your replies.
  15. Kind of like this, o1000 m30 o2000 m30 o3000 m30 all in one file.
  16. Colin, Thank you for your help. that is almost what i want but i would like all 3 programs to come out in one file. I could cut and paste the separate files but i would like them to come out in one file. is that posiible? kind of like a subprogram does.
  17. Hello, Say i am going to machine a block to clean up the sides on a 3 axis fadal. I would like to make 3 separate tool motions, one for each side and have mcam output prog 1000, 2000 and 3000. in a single file. is this possible?
  18. I tried to get MPMaster for Fadal but In-House charges for it now, Not free anymore.
  19. I tried to get MPMaster for Fadal but In-House charges for it now, Not free anymore.
  20. I turned on "rotary axis positioning" and the code was about 7 lines long when it was 700 lines long. works good now.
  21. Cjep, that works good. I checked the box next to that one by mistake. too much of a hurry. now the program is 700 lines long, its like each block moves the table one degree, how do i change that?
  22. I used a post from inhouse for a Mazak 300S mill/turn and it was perfect.
  23. Yes i looked and i am using the generic post that came with mastercam but i want to use the MP master for fadal. Cad-cam used to send it out but they don't do that anymore. I guess i will contact in house solutions.
  24. Bryan, thank you for the reply. I did selct the 3 axis option and the table does rotate but the I am seeing moves in the output that suggest the tool is moving too. The table has a very small area to move in because of the large part we have in the machine. The part over hangs the table on a 4020 Fadal. I need the tool to position itself in X and Y and stay in that position and only feed in Z axis whole the table turns. the table is on the Z axis. I am not at work now but i can upload the file tonight if that helps.
  25. I have been reading that MP Master post for Fadal is better than the generic one i am using that came with Mastercam. I am trying to do 4 axis work. I contacted Cad-Cam Consulting and they say they dont distribute that out so does anybody know where i can get the post? I think it is free. Should i try in house solutions?
