  1. quote: In order to conform to your current Machine Def / Control Def parameters, some of this tool's setting have been changed. Any values that have been changed to meet these settings will be shown in italics. I have a feed rate at 570, but it gets modified to 500 Where in Machime Def / Control Def are these settings?
  2. We have five programmers full time here ... 2 Mastercam 2 CATIA 1 Anvil (part time) I do 80% of my programming in Mastercam ... but all 5-axis in CATIA, and occasionally, in NX ... depending on the part ... No one cam system does it all ... as supervisor, I need to know all our cam systems ... My opinion is Mastercam is much faster and easier to program with ... time is an major factor here ... the really large parts (ie. 300" x 65" x 15.0") with complex surfaces and close tolerance, I go with CATIA, NX, and Anvil ... Mastercam seems to bog down with these parts ... You can still do them, but not as efficiently ... quote: It doesn't matter how good your hammer is, if you really need a screwdriver Using the right tools for the right job is efficient and help keep the cost down ... All verification is G-code with Vericut ....No cls verifications ... What goes to the floor is verified ... G-code Again ... this is just my opinion ... (but can I help it if I am right? )
  3. Latest word from my IT guy: quote: Your computer has a server motherboard which supports SAS (15,000RPM and SATA is only 7,200RPM). With SAS, you can configure RAID. Ram disk is a misused term I think in this case (“A RAM disk (not to be confused with a RAM drive or solid-state drive) is a block of RAM (primary storage or volatile memory) that a computer's software is treating as if the memory were a disk drive (secondary storage).” Source(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAM_disk). Back in Windows 3.11 or Windows 95, one can configure a virtual disk (make up of RAM) but data will not be retained after computer shutdown. I don’t think it’s a good idea to configure virtual disk because Windows manages application memory. In other words, Windows’s still running under SATA so data is still being load from SATA to CPU (slow) SSD is the easiest way to go. Thanks for everyones input ... very helpful and very knowledgable ... great forum to be part of ...
  4. quote: What are you talking about??...I'd like to see you build a roman style door in Bobcad!! OK already ... Bobcad is "caveman technology" ... all I meant to say, Mastercam, my bread and butter, is not using current technology, nor last years ... maybe, I should have said the "dark ages technology" or "medieval technology" Any, back to the reall issue ... I agree, adding aanother dual quad core and increasing clock speed is the answer for now ...
  5. Can you put the file on the FTP Site? or email it to me? I think I can help ...
  6. quote: The file size is around 125 meg. This is not a TRUE verification software ... it is limit to the number of triangles produced in the stl files ... I suggest saving stl after each machine group to start with and use it for the next machine group ... I use Vericut to finalize my programs, but still use this software just to make sure nothing funny of out of the ordinary is going on. So, when I get too big of a file (anything over 85 meg) I will up the "tool tolerance" and "stl tolerance" to .005 in your "Verify Option" dialog box ... move the "speed - quality" slider on notch below quality (sometimes two) ... Again, I only use this to look out for funny move as I program ... Vericut for the real deal ... HTH
  7. I also work with CATIA, NX and Vericut ... the RAM a must for them, just wish MC would get up-to-date with their product ... continually staying in "caveman technology" will lessen its marketability ...
  8. Right now I am using: Window 7 Professional - 64 bit Xeon E5430 @2.66GHz dual quad cores (2 processors) 12.0 GB RAM NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700 My questions are: 1 - "If I increased the RAM to 20.0 GB will Mastercam use it?" (I have 2 empty slots) 2 - "What is the most RAM that Mastercam can utilize?" 3 - "Does Mastercam runs faster at higher clock speed on one CPU, or with more CPU cores? any input would help ...

  13. quote: WOW... just WOW!!! Couldn't have said it any better ... The new shop foreman there is very good and cares ... but he doesn't call the shots for payroll ... tight budget because not enough students ... I asked for a raise and they said that they couldn't afford to pay more ... so I left ... had they said yes, I probably still be there ... I really enjoy teaching others who are interested ... 19. sorry, but option button is grey-out ... cannot select ... (see above)
  20. Hey, the option to import STL is not available ... what am I missing? In a previous X-version, I could bring in STL as lines or mesh ... now what?
