It just seems to me these problems are hardware specific. Meaning only people with certain hardware configs will run into them.
My system that is having all the problems mentions on this site:

Dell Precision T7400 Workstation Xeon E5430 Dual Quad Core 2.66GHz
WD Caviar 640 GB, SATA 3 Gb/s, 16 MB Cache, 7200 RPM
Window 7 64 bit
12.0 GB of RAM
NVIDIA Quadro FX 3700
Dual 23” Samsung SyncMaster 2333 monitors
Mastercam X4 MU1
Vericut 7.0.1
CATIA V5R19
Unigraphic NX 6.0
Microsoft Office 2007 Professional
SnagIt 8.1.0
All drivers update and current ...

It looks like the hand writing is on the wall for Mastercam at our establishment ... the boss is looking into using a different software ... too much down time ...

Have you tried running a larger tolerance on your stl resolution?
I have, three or four times a day, but when measuring, it is +/- your tolerance ... in many cases with me, I MUST have tighter tolerances ... ususally .001 ...
This only happen on larger files where the the STL are over 15MB ... very common here ... so I have to use Vericut for FINALLY verification ...
I updated to Window 7 64 bits without changing the "compatibility" mode
Having hard times getting several programs to run, but Mastercam X4MU1 seems stable until 2nd instance open up ... if saving the file at the same time, one goes into "not responding" mode and have to wait until it comes back on ... looking into this now ...

Just between Me, Rickster & peon MC has cost a lot of down time. No telling how many customers are having this issue that WE don't know about.
It's taking a toll on my mental state

Time to get in to the architecture and bring it up to date or find a way to make it work for
everyone. OR how about a refund if it I have to stop using X4 because of this and go back to X3?

However, there is the usual plethora of bugs (new and old) to work around. That's cool though. It would "feel" very very wrong if Mastercam didn't trip you up numerous times during the first month or two after a new release or update.

I hope this is a problem that gets worked out because I just talked my new employer into getting X4 with the maintenance agreement. I seriously doubt he would invest in a second system.

Reko, I'm in the same situation. I just started at this facility this past March and talked them into Mastercam. My initial plans were to add several, level 1 seats to the floor so the men on the floor can program their 2d geometry and drilling rather than manually typing the code into their machines from a print. I wanna go paperless like I had at my previous employer. Well guess what? I can't honestly make that suggestion anymore with the crap I've been dealt with since the release of X4. Especially since we have available seats of Pro/e Manufacture. (very cumbersome in my opinion). It would be hard enough to train a few men on a new CAM system with STABLE CAM software, but just imagine if I had to train the men now and still try to keep up with my own job responsibilities when the software crashes on a consistent basis. I'm just asking for a stable software package. This now becomes a career decision with my current employer if I recommend Mastercam to the shop floor. Please fix the crap!

it looks like this now ... correct?

Have you tried the settings on the Link page.. there's a lot of power there..
I play around with it, but not found what I need to do multiple curves ... I separate them for now and will experiment later ...

I hate to break this to you I did this for Vericut ... Imagecfg is a Microsoft tool for XP and Server 03. Since Vericut is written in Java (running in JVM) all you need is to run this tool against JRE to make it aware of the 3GB memory. (All your java apps now will aware of 3GB)
Instructions:
quote:
Make more memory available for Vericut in XP
• System Properties click [Advance] tab
• Under Startup and Recovery click [settings]
• Click [Edit] button under System startup
• Add:
o /3GB /Userva=2900
• Reboot the computer
• Download and extract the following file:
o http://download.cgtech.com/public/imagecfg.zip
o To C:cgtechXXXwindowsjrebin
o Rename imagecfg.file to imagecfg.exe
o Make a copy of javaw.exe
o Execute the following command:
Imagecfg –l javaw.exe
Since Mastercam is written in C or C++ I will have to run this tool against the application level to get full use of 3GB.
Thanks Jesse,
I took your file, changed the drive surface to a flat boundary surface ... rotate both the surface and geometry -10 degrees (just to give it more 'eye-definition') , changed drive surface offset on "surface Paths" tab to zero (it would take -.200 for some reason), changed theh depth of cut under "roughing" tab to
number 2
spacing .1
left everything the same
changed Tool axis will under tool axis control to "be tilted relative to cutting direction" lead 2 degrees
changed to 1/4 bull nose .031 rad ..
and now I have exactly what I was looking for ...
save back to FTP as 5AXMSURFRAMP-2.MCX under X4 files
Thanks again
For example:
Draw a 2" circle ... using 2D toolpath 'contour' under 'cut parameters' select 'contour type' choose 'ramp' ... under 'ramp motion" select 'depth' using 'ramp depth' .050 and check 'make pass at final depth" (which is .200 deep)
Now ... do this with 5 axis ...
tried gcode way but could not get it to work ...
