  1. It's really sad to hear of such a thing happening esp. with a young family starting out. Gosh it's hard enough to raise a family these days just under normal circumstances. I'm glad you shared it with us. It is a eye-opener that we should look out for those that go INTO the delivery room as well.
  2. George W. Bush and the Pope The Pope visits Washington and President Bush takes him for a ride down the Potomac on the presidential yacht. They're enjoying themselves when a gust of wind blows the Pope's hat (zucchetto) off and out onto the water. The Secret Service begins to launch a boat but Bush waves them off saying, "Wait. I'll take care of this." Bush steps off the yacht onto the surface of the water, walks out a ways and picks up the hat. Back on board, he hands the hat to the Pope amid stunned silence. The next morning the Washington Post carries the story complete with photos under the heading BUSH CAN'T SWIM
  3. just about totaly converted everything here to Mastercam with great success. I think the answer to your question is right here What % is left? Granted it would benefit your company to have someone that has Surfcam skills to get the rest over. That is the plan right? You aren't looking to go the other way are you? It doesn't sound to me that there is a need to show that one is better than the other. It really boils down to what direction your place is headed.
  4. I'm waiting for the movie. I hope they get Clint Eastwood to direct it. I like to see it called "Hang em high" tho I think that name has already been used...... gosh I might loose some of my liberal viewpoints saying something like that
  5. Oh duh looks like that is near Philly not AZ. Well I do like the Eagles But I have interviews set up right now and will see how that goes
  6. Bernie, That other member might be me I joined in once before and forget my password So I came in again under another name. Santa Fe is not what you call a manufacturing mecca unless you include baskets, pottery, and over priced art.. tourist trap in a big way. There is really only one shop in town that is not automotive and he is a solo operation... nice guy tho. Yep, I can relate to Phoenix, it's really going strong right now, last time I was there it was 100deg the wind was blowing 30mph and that was at midnight. Did you see that dust storm on the news about a week or so ago.... no thanks I want to be somewhere green ... with seasons and water.. I know I'm sounding a little picky ruling out places and all. but the good news is that well it looks to be working that way I might freeze being a southwest guy in the tundra of Ne. but it's looking like it might work out. Hats off to James M. he hooked me up with another good possibilty if this doesn't fly
  7. Living in a state where us gringos are the minority. I for one am pretty sick of the "Yankee Go Home" attitude here. Not that I am a bigot or anything, but hey the border is about 300 miles south of here....."Run for it" or start speaking english
  8. So what "was " the Mcam question anyway? You'll find as I have, that sure there are a good deal of off topic subjects and you may not share the same views as some of the other members. But to misjudge some of these PEOPLE as I have, by their viewpoints is doing nothing but cutting youself short. After all it's not like they are on a retainer from Mcam. Or are they Just today I got some real good feedback from the people I least expected it from, because I certainly don't agree with some of their points which surprised me and also humbled me. You know Crow is pretty dry and ketshup doesn't really help
  9. Gcode I sent a e to beav..... never heard anything there again I think it's the not seeing both sides...no offense intended I'd jump on that in the proverbial NY minute jammer, I did have it all lined up to take a job with Cooper Tools there in SC, but put it off so I wouldn't put my last guy in a bind.. after I tell Cooper I can't do it right now .... he take my notice early... since I got the work out and then rips me on my vac. time... turns around and say how he takes care of his guys...grrr I keep my mouth shut, bail out and see if the checks clear ... did get some of it as the last second... maybe had something to to with curling my rollaway into the backseat of my car....lol.... still tempted to give him a nasty phone call.... but you got to let thing go sometime Anywho jammmer I am more of mill guy... haven't really done lathes much. Do apprciate the feedback... you guys most know what i am talking about
  10. I could use some job tips here. I feel that by doing what I needed to do to provide for my family has put a certain amount of egg on my face. Most of you certainly know the feast or famine nature of this business. It's like 7 days a week then nothing. So when you have kids and you're the soul provider, you have to look elsewhere, when those hours get cut back. Least you have something like working for someone who is packing their nose with powder, or a foreman who is stealing the place blind. Major G-jobs, talking weeks here. I go on swings to supposedly prevent someone else getting laid off only to find that it's to do the programming for some of these G-jobs. You know I don't really have a problem with a little bit here and there, but at the level they were taking it was absurd. So what do I get for saying I have a problem with it, Laid off. You know I kick myself in the rear for not having done what I should of done then. I did contact the higher ups later and they sent some investigators later to talk with me. It was like right out of the X-files. I gave then the facts the numbers etc. and another worker who is still there was willing to back it up. So far, over two years later nothing has been done. Granted I like to think that it is still ongoing. It not like I can really put this info on my resume. If I told you guys who it was I'd think that you all would be just as ticked off as I am. You know it not so bad when you interview with the owner of a place because they understand the nature of the beast of manufacturing. Most owners have seen some good people go because they can not give them the hours that they need to get by due to lack of work at some point. Or the kind of benefits that they may need for their family. It hasn't all been bad I have worked for some really good people and worked with some really great people. I started in this biz back in 74, there weren't any Cnc's then and still to this day I still get a kick out of them. It's like I still relate to how much better the part is going to come out vs. running that type of operation on a manual not even considering the jobs that there is no way you could do it on a manual. Like all of you in this forum, I dig this stuff. It's cool that w can get paid for something we enjoy. Getting a little long winded here so I'll wrap up. I'm looking at another interview and relocating again. More than likely I be going through the dreaded HR person who really doesn't have a clue to this business and all that it entails. I'm ready to go about anywhere, except maybe Ca. and Fl.. New Mexico is such a dead end, I know I have to get out of here. Any thoughts... either way
  11. Congrats Gary, Right behind you. Aug. Already a grandpa too. Got a grandson up there in your state. Cuter than any of my 5 kids, not that I am biased or anything I knew it was all downhill after 40 but didn't expect some many bumps
  12. What about assembly. Does one seem better than the other or are we mainly talking modeling
  13. Gcode, I will give that a shot. Otherwise I feel like I am playing a video game. Carpel Tunnel Cad
  14. I have used ProE for quite sometime, granted it is quite user hostile - out of the box. But with the mapkeys you can do alot with a couple of keystrokes. I agree ProMan makes the modeling end look easy. Iges over to mcam. Forget about the associativity, by the time your cutting parts design should be complete..yeah right I find S/W so mouse driven it's drives me nuts or maybe more nuts :)I have 2 hands and like to use them both From what I see the model package for both runs around the same price 5k..sans maintence fees etc I know that PTC has rubbed people raw Craig ... how you like there in SC I almost took a job at Cooper Tool in Lex.... tell me it's a cluster p**k and I did the right thing by not going
  15. I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I would like some feedback from people who have used both. modeling and assembly ...not the cam end we all know mcam rules
  16. Uhh dude, your brain needs more oxygen, seriously. Drivel, plain and simple. The personal attack is pretty good I thought this was just expressing one's opinion
  17. ToolFab.. does kind of say it all Funny how one can lose their sense of humor.
  18. DID HE KILL 6,000,000 people when did the number get that high.... 25% of the population???? Enron & Hallibuton working those number are they... Lets see how far down the chain do you have to go to find any military experience? Bush.... not to discredit the guard but talk about a skate. Cheney... zero..military experience ... making a fortune with Halliburton capping the wells that saddam blew with George I wars that they blew too Rummmy .. what a naval instrutor and a loser from GW I Condalessa Rice .. now there is some real experience... Powell .. finally someone who didn't have it handed to him through out life. read his book But then that was before he was SoS. Then there is the information thing. But reliable enough to send a 40 cruise missile salvo for the opening act of break the bank. Who used to be head of the Cia?? George I. You can say what you want about Clinton, but 9-11 happen during jr. watch. Even tho the FBI was misdirected by Conduit ... , wanting to find out where Bill kept his cigars ..lol We still manage to avoid anything of the magintude of 9/11 Where was GW , his was down in Fla. with Jeb. Thanking him for the election work. and raising money for 2004. Was Saddam a scumbag... all the way, he deserves to die. Funny , with all the new news about how we could of put the hit on Osuma. Asssignated him, not a bad idea they forgot that they said they couldn't do that with Saddam. Now it's why didn't Clinton do it... wahhhh we have had only 200 days to ignore the the previous admins. warning but then again look at the qualified cabinet. right off the enron board... The whole Bush family is full of atrocitiys. Well Jeb , he kind of cute. Bet his picture is next to the word half-wit in the dictonary. And then there is the other bush boy.. Neil you remember the S&L collapse. Guess he over in China, striking trade deals.. can you say goodbye jobs But hey I like Bush certainly he can't do any worse if he is re-elected or should I say re-selected. Finally we have a President who has a criminal record, family ties with a family that flys airplanes into building. carlise group, if you are wondering. Did a great job of getting rid of all the extra money that was laying around from the previous admin. Then like Emirl says Bam kick it up a notch.... new levels of debt Hears what he wants to and hires on basis of how much did you contribute to me. Doesn't get any better than this
  19. So when the boss says "RUN EM" then it's on his shoulders right?? I'll admit I put in the wrong numbers , wrong by .75 . I didn't catch it. Did the cad and then worked from that. Flipped around the same model basically. But did the setups <4> to take one part all the way , rather than 1 op all, next, next, next you know So anyhow I get what I thought was a buy off, except I needed to back off since the tapped holes were tearing thru. ??? Fri. afternoon Come in Sat. ?? when was the last time I saw any ot.??? The customer is coming in at 2pm to "bless" I take parts to a point where there are some for last op, to run cause I leave after 4 hrs. To lunch. well guess who caught it right away ??? Mon. it was" guess what ??" And me being cranky becuase I quit smoking After all I was "Riding his xxxx" about not cutting material early and limiting my options earlier. tho on these parts it won't of mattered. I didn't say "See I told you so" and he said he was just as much to blame. Me I still blame myself of course. So I don't buy material. I just cut it. I am just wonder how I made $3000 worth of scrap. What does a 10' feet of 6061- 3"wide 1.5 th..... bar stock.. go for?? 8hrs. run time on a VF-4??. I wonder because my notice was accepted well ... yesterday and it was stlll 3 weeks away, trying to leave them in a good spot ...if there is such a thing .....hummmm hour before quitting time .... had finished cleaning the machine for the next job. Checks.. paid up... well except for vacation Fine... be that way.. "I'll do what I need to" ... What?? ..... "I'll do what I need to" Start loading tools into car..... steam is boiling !!! Picking up how many pounds of tools , rollaway.... trying to get it all in my 20yo pos volvo rollaway does fit .. saw the handles off...... their 2 dogs see I'm packing..sense something they'd rather be with me...lol never under estimate a dog I ready to go ... say "Good Bye" to some co-workers , the worse part of leaving places!!!!!! All the sudden they come up with a week vac...... should of been 2 but .... And I didn't have too but I did and patting himself on the back saying how he takes care of his guys etc..... short term memory I guess. So any commets , either way... you know I can kind of justify it all get myself off the hook. I think all of probably are hard on ourself in this business. I don't like "hurting" metal any more than the next guy I like it to be good parts. Not like I am in a habit of making garbage I guess this makes me inelibagile :0 for the forum anywho.. waiting for the banks to open
  20. I was unaware that cutter paths are associative with solids. But when you change one of the 2 angles that create the compound , you do that from what the associated drawing? Most agreeable a JopShop isn't going to buy ProE If no other reason the lack of file translation into Pro unless they are vacationing in Bulgria then it might set them back 10 euro. Even then !! they will still need Mcam or stick lit cigarettes in their eyes. But proe can do quite a bit. Don't get me wrong I'm not slamming mastercam. Pronc touched on some of them. Maybe solids are associative in Mcam Pro it all is , and relational if the need be. Pro-E/NC engineer?? ProE is surely more cryptic than most. But any machinst can learn it just as easy as any other program. But if Pro/Nc is about the same as Mcam L3 then that kind of changes things dollar wise. But It still would take a lot of up front effort To set it the way you wanted. Quite a bit more than Mcam tie the fish line to my toe like ol' huckfin frees up both hands for beer
  21. It really isn't a fair comparison. Even if it was Solidworks and Mastercam combined. Maybe UG . It only takes money. Lets see how much money can I spend in Tolland Ct.? Maybe 25k max? <'begin salesman routine here> before I start repeating myself. What do I get by spending more , more peformance ?? no, another seat I am just beginning to get attention in Waltham Ma. at 25k but by laying out more dough can I take it further.... yeah baby ...someone turn off that salesman routine ProE is real strong , It has more geometical references than S/W , Sure it it goes to APT , but Apt source is pretty close to nc Vb.net .$110 and a afternoon for a post. It does what I don't think any other package does. I f I have a conic radius running along a compound angle and I change one of the angles of the compound angle. I regenerate the model , the toolpaths go along for the ride. I can insert a model into a assembly and extract my edm eletrodes using the solid model for cuts. Then just change the model regen .. and now I have my next set of trodes. these could also have cut paths assigned too. I don't know enough about MC solids, but is this the process Some one give you a part model and you use it to get surface model for the trode.?but then can you switch the model?? But like Pronc says it's not friendly to other software's not like you are going to drop someone else 3d model into it... you are proe all the way , tho iges out to mastercam is pretty good. You can cut off any geometry you can create, which is pretty much unlimited. Training is high. Maintence too.. PTC attitude is absurd. But they have a Users Forum http://www.ptcuser.org/exploder/ You'll get a quicker answer there than from PTC They share post It's a lot of up front work to get everthing dialed in. Do your needs warrant the "True Model Asociativity" or does your company make a family of parts. Do they have deep pockets It depends on your needs are,if you have the needs for what ProE can do then there really is no choice, Nobody else can do it. But I don't think you will use it for most things and you will still need a seat of MasterCam !! the scareist part is with proe is that you are allowing that engineer who last month wanted 6-32 holes 3 inches deep in stainless a foothold into cutting the part. I prefer the give me the model... get the heck out method. It cost extra to watch But then again 80 % of mill work could be done with a calculator and notepad. Under a tree by a lake:)
  22. I have 98 hours this week and only getting paid for 40 .??????... unacceptable!! I never worked at Arc, but I seem to remember them as pretty much ok.. depeneds on how much they try and knock you down going in the door ....and there is gilbert in san marcos too. Also West precision in Vista MACHINIST:CNC Exp. operator positions avail. All shifts ARC Technologies 185 Vallecitos De Oro San Marcos 760-744-7400 or fax resume to: 760-744-7711 Published 02/01/2004 - 02/07/2004 by North County Times
  23. you need the file ..... msvbvm60.dll to run , more than likely there on any newer windows, other you can d/l at alot of places http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?msvbvm60 is one
  24. yes , you post the nc code first, it reads it in then parses it to multiples I guess I could change it around and make it a .dll run from a script
  25. local_subs.exe I guess if I had put that all one one line it's for haas's only G54-G59 and then it's G110 to G whatever it is
