  1. I have a TI-83 calculator with a bunch of Shop Math programs that I wrote. The programs are menu driven so it makes it easy to navigate. I am willing to share to anyone that wants a copy.
  2. Anything in paticular or just everything in general? .
  3. This is from Peter Smid's book, "Fanuc CNC Custom Macros" pg. 173 quote: It is very important that the target block of the branching, the one called in the GOTOn statement does exist in the same program and is not duplicated. Hope this helps. .
  4. Oh, by the way, the linear scales will not compensate for spindle growth issues inherent in a Haas. .
  5. Haas "claims" 1 micron accuracy for their linear scales option. Linear scales on a Haas do not control thermal expansion, but more like it compensates for it. Lighter castings will move and flex more. Since the "scales" are mounted to the castings, the moving and flexing will compromise the scales accuracy. .
  6. Worth every penny, and then some!
  7. quote: As far as the ISO thing goes One place that I was at, they hired a consultant to help us with our ISO registration. We were able to fast track and complete our registration in six months. The same consultant helped with our QC-1 registration, (QC-1 allowed us to manufacture product for Sandia National Laboratories).
  8. I agree with Crazy Millman on this one. One additional comment, with the lower salary, you may attract someone who is climbing up the ladder and not quite fully experienced. I am not say that is a bad thing, but not all companies can afford to "hold their hand" while they get that experience.
  9. quote: witch intern Cool! Let's go on a witch hunt! I apologize for "myself", I know what you meant. me: Get back in the corner. myself: Come on, I just want of have some fun! me: No, now is not the time. myself: Come on, just let me stir the pot one more time. me: NO! GET BACK IN THE CORNER... NOW! myself: Fine! YOU'RE BORING! Sorry guys, I think I have control of "myself" now!
  10. If you get a chance you may also want to take a tour of Mazak's factory in Florence, Kentucky. I was there this past December for their "Touch the Future" event. I have been there on four other occasions, one personal tour as well as three other "Touch the Future" events. They have a very impressive facility. I like their "Done in One" approach. Mazak is starting to replace their older machines on the manufacturing line with new Mazak equipment. Contact your Mazak dealer and I am sure he can schedule you a personal tour also.
  11. quote: You know, seriously, I've heard all this stuff about how Haas is gettin better an all. But I hear HORROR stories about 2002 and later machines. I think their quality IS going down. Fast growth does come with penalties and quality is one of them. quote: Haas has also broadened their product line [to their detriment in my opinion] to include HMCs, more lathes, etc, which helps volume quite a bit. I agree with Chris that one. quote: My 2000 Mini just keeps running. I have a 2001 Mini that I play with in the garage at home and it just keeps running, and running, and running. You would think is was the dang energizer bunny.
  12. quote: i think the way HAAS continues to get better they will also begin to make motorcycles too ,maybe the fastest one on earth That's GREAT! LOL. I was starting to wonder if any one had a sense of humor here!!
  13. quote: Yea, I know Harley has turned it around, But I ain't got none them new fangled ones. I have a 73 Shovel, a 73 Sporty, and two 45's They all leak, ain't very fast, don't want to go round no corners but they DO put a smile on my face. They put a smile on my face too! Even riding home in the rain today, I was smiling all the way. I still have my 81' FLH Shovel, bought used in 83'. It has 187,000.0+ on the clock now. I used to have a 54' 50th anniversary Servi-car with a 45in flaty, 3speed with reverse that was 98% original. I wished I still had it. The OL was PO when I sold it. She got over it... after I bought her another bike. I also had a 69' Ironhead sporty that I rode in high school. I don't miss that one! I've had quite a few before and after, the latest is an 07' Ultra. The bad thing about the new bikes is that they don't break-down as often. I kinda miss being stuck on the side of the road. LOL. The good thing is that we can cover more miles now. Only a biker knows why a dog sticks his head out the window.
  14. quote: They turned it around because they embraced TQM methods developed by AMERICANS Deming and Juran and which the US Mfg. Industry spurned (:cough: Ford, :cough: GM, :cough: Chrysler: )for years. You can turn just about anything around with enough money ($81 million in Harley's Case). That's right, despite the nay sayers.
  15. quote: All of these Pro classes are a total fraud; like saying Warren Johnson was really running an Oldsmobile all those years. Didn't see too many 550 cubic inch Oldsmobiles with 2200CFM worth of carbs, 9-inch rear ends, and Lenco trannies down at my dealership Well go down to your local track and file a formal complaint!
  16. quote: Larry Mc Bride went 5.799 @ 235.8 at Valdosta this year. He is the first into the 5's and did it I believe in 2004 Doug is a nice guy...Doug is not the fastet on the planet. Dang, I must have overslept. I hate when that happens, but 6.21 in the quarter is nothing to sneeze at.
  17. quote: quote: ...Harley took a lot of bashing in the 70's... ALL of it was earned. I'm guessing you missed the point, Harley turned their company around, despite the nay sayers! quote: I love my Harleys. But they leak. They wet sump. They aren't real fast Harleys don't leak, they mark their territory! Seriously, I have not had any of my Harleys leak since my Panhead and Shovelhead days. Up until last year a Harley powered MC held the land speed record for 16 years with rider Dave Compos. Harley also has the quickest MC on the planet 6.21 seconds in the quarter mile with rider Doug Vancil. In the pro-stock series, Harleys V-Rod won multiple championships. quote: I own about 60 Brit bikes I'm sorry quote: National pride is one thing, but to cut off one's nose............ I guess "We shall march down, very quiet, to our stations by the sea."
  18. quote: Maybe we got stuck with lemons. Maybe so. I like Mazaks, except for the one we had. There was another guy in our area that had a Variaxis (730) also. He also had nothing but trouble with it. The tool changer would throw tools like a baseball pitcher. He never did get it resolved.
  19. quote: They touted that they made Haas with Haas in the beginning as well, and then, as you've obviously seen, they had to abandon that strategy, for good reasons, performance, reliability, automation, precision, repeatability, etc...There is not a single company in this world that got it right on the first try. It's about evolution and Haas has not given up. This current attempt will be better than the last. Haas is determined to make Haas' with Haas' and they will! I support this American company like I support another American company. That company is Harley Davidson. Harley took a lot of bashing in the 70's much like Haas is taking now. I supported Harley then (even thought I spent a lot of time on the side of the road fixing the dang things) and I still support them today (current stable is down to four from seven). The real reason that I believe in Haas is because I believe in America!
  20. quote: Some builders however refuse to go that route and continue to build the finest equipment money can buy, equipment that can reproduce itself, which commodity machines cannot do. That statement is no longer true. Haas is now replacing brand X machines with Haas machines on their manufacturing line!! Buy American, the job you save may be your own!
  21. quote: I'm not going to bash Haas or any other commodity builder. Enough has been said on the + and the -. I do however take issue with the above statement because it's Why do I say that? For 1, the Japanese builders I am familiar with generaly have a philosophy - continuous improvement or Kaizen. See, the Japanese will not rest on their laurels. Haas is following the continuous the improvement philosophy also. Look at Haas' first machines that they produced as 800mxz dubbed "Lunar Lander" to the machines they produce now. That's continuous improvement! Haas is just now celebrating their twenty-fifth anniversary in business. quote: ... NOT your father's Japanese machine tool. Actually, that would be me. I have been in the business for thirty-three years now. I ran those machines back then also. quote: Seems as though some of the larger builders I mentioned, they are trying to inch their way into the commodity market. To do that, they have to do some things that they would never even conceive of doing on their high end models, things like shimming the linear ways instead of scraping the mating surfaces, no longer manufacturing their own spindles, ball screws and ball nuts... Now why would a "Quality" builder do that? Are they losing money and market share? Buy American, the job you save may be your own!
  22. Also make sure the "%" only thing on the line.
  23. The only other thing that causes problems is a "%" missing at the beginning and/or end of your program.
  24. You may want to check Setting 25 "EOB Pattern" on your Haas control and make sure it is set for "CR LF"
