  4. We use a Centroid digitizer to copy cylinder heads and if the splines are in slices of Z all is well but if we do a grid pattern in x or y it comes in all inside out This is a sample of good code from the digitizer -3.9552 -1.1106 3.7419 -3.9554 -1.0898 3.7419 -3.9561 -1.0691 3.7419 -3.9566 -1.0485 3.7419 -3.9570 -1.0281 3.7419 -3.9577 -1.0077 3.7419 -3.9587 -0.9874 3.7419 -3.9589 -0.9673 3.7419 -3.9594 -0.9472 3.7419 -3.9597 -0.9271 3.7419 -3.9596 -0.9071 3.7419 -3.9600 -0.8924 3.7419 -3.9783 -0.8924 3.6919 -3.9766 -0.8724 3.6919 -3.9769 -0.8524 3.6919 -3.9770 -0.8323 3.6919 -3.9770 -0.8122 3.6919 -3.9768 -0.7919 3.6919 -3.9773 -0.7717 3.6919 -3.9772 -0.7513 3.6919 -3.9775 -0.7309 3.6919 -3.9775 -0.7102 3.6919 -3.9777 -0.6894 3.6919 -3.9777 -0.6684 3.6919 -3.9776 -0.6472 3.6919 -3.9778 -0.6258 3.6919 I also have another cad program called Excalibur(yes there are others but not as good ) that has a feature to import digitized points and it asks what way the slices are if I run the grid pattern through it and import it as iges then it also comes in ok Tom
  5. Richard When you create the relaxed surface (smaller u&V numbers I am told around 20 is a good number for u&v) it asks you if you want to delete the old surface if you say no you it will overlay and you can see if the tolerance is acceptable....check your email Tom
  6. Richard Millport Rhino mill w/ Centroid control A&B axis' are on a table we built with 1 centroid rotary(A) and 1 Troyke( ...works ok as far as accuracy but when all 5 are moving at once the feedrate slows down a bunch (also digitizing on this machine) As far as the learning being vertical...you said a mouthful there!Mike Rosa at CNC Software saves my butt on a regular basis Mastercam was a big bite for a small shop like ours but I know now it was well worth the investment Tom
  7. We are doing 5 ax cylinder head work and use backplot mostly with a shaded tool and unshaded part for speed (shaded tool shaded part goes too slow) to check tool shank containment...been good so far but we're just learning so lots of time to screw up although I have caught& fixed several shank problems that would have been broken tools Tom
  8. I was having trouble seeing my chaining arrows they would flash on but not stay lit backed the acceleration slider about half way down and fixed it Tom

  15. We use a 3 jaw chuck on a homemade sine plate and machined a set of aluminum soft jaws to fit in the oil ring groove We then set one angle with the sine plate and spin the piston in the jaws to make the other angle flat ....very rigid, fast and fits any piston What kind of race car does your boss have? Could probably email pics of vise if needed Tom
  16. My reseller ...Innovative Solutions in Pa. 717-541-8123 had me adjust some setting for the intel card and it fixed the problem I forget what the adjust was but it was some slide bar in the video card menu Tom
