    solids

i have been doing more work with solids lately. usually just did mostly 2 and 2 1/2d wire frame. I only have x5 mill level 1. would buying a solids package make it easier to do toolpaths from solids, or is more for drawing solids.

  7. I have a block with a compound angle on it,on the top view I have a line at 15 deg. across the top of the block. Now I want to rotate that line in the side view 3 deg. relative to the 15 deg line. is this possilble? MC9 sp2 Thanks

I,m using osg products.I was able to tap 7 holes 8mm x1.25 18mm deep then my tap broke and the drill needs resharpening. $90. for the drill 170.00 for the tap. have 50 holes to do.the parts are taper shafts 3 feet long . any other products available and a little more reasonable.
  10. Chris our machine do have toolpath graphics.
  11. OSP 5020L and OSP 5000L-G. Thanks Greg. Chris: You are right about the manuals, I have to read them a couple of times, before I understand what they are trying to say. To bad they couldn't Write them in machinist language in stead of scientist. Cheers Shawn
  12. I have an lb15 & lb25 okuma lathe with IGF, I program them with MC or long hand.I'm not familar with IGF, is there any advantage to have our machinists learn the IGF or just teach them MC. If there an advantage to the IGF would anyone know where to find examples of the programming metods.
  13. Thanks for the replies, I will get back to you. my drawing is missing some points.
  14. I have to draw a cam, from 0 to 90 the radius changes approx. .015 per degree. so my question is can I draw a line polar and have it reduce by .015 each time without having to type it in each time? the constant is actually seven decimal places to reduce accumulation error i.e(.0153312). is there a way to store a constant in the math function of mc. thanks
  15. Thanks guys I will try your suggestions.
  16. That is what I tried but for some reason the corner radius don't match.
  17. I have a drawning of a profile with a taper on it,and I have to machine a pocket for this to fit in, but I need a .062 gap around the insert, what would be the most accurate way to make the proflie bigger. I tried offset contour but I did not get an even gap around the insert. would it be more accurate to scale the part?
  18. Thats awesome thanks. Do you know of anyone using this product.
  19. I don't know if I should post this here or on the off topic forum, but anyway here it is. Does any one know if you can hook a external hard drive to an older Fadal so we can have more memory. We got a price for more memory, but I don't think the machine is worth the price of the memory. or just use an old computer and run dnc all the time. Thanks
  20. I am trying to open a STP. file, mastercam asks me for a access code. Could someone tell me where to find this, or does it come from the people who made the drawning. thanks Shawn
  21. Does anyone have a chart for oring grooves? or could tell me where to find one. we always have to rework the groove when they are made to the print size. Thanks Shawn
  22. Thanks Columbo You sent me in the right direction. I used stock advance.
  23. Can someone tell me how to define the stock for two different operations. 1st I want to face and turn the first side of my part. then I want to turn the part around and face turn and bore the second side which has .250 to face off. when I face the first side m/c thinks there is no stock left, so when I face the second side it wants to take all the material with one cut. I usally do this with two different files redefining the stock each time. I was hoping to cut down on files and just use levels. Thanks
