Hi Mick,
I put a 4 axis program that comes right from the 4-5 axis tutorial book. It is called Tutorial#6.mc8. The book is available here at emastercam.com, but I purchased from my dealer.
The book is very straight forward in walking thru 4 - 5 axis toolpaths. Have Fun
Karl
Bryan,
I bought cadkey way back in the DOS days paid about 400 dollars. After my wife and kid came along never upgraded. I still have my 5 1/4 disks but no computer to read them (only 3 1/2 ). Our engineering dept. uses it. I'll ask for a demo on monday.
Have a good weekend all.
Karl
Zero,
Thanks for the info. Does rhino have a demo version, if so where...rhino.com???? and what do you export it to (iges,dxf....ect.) to get it into MC.
Karl
Hi Zero,
That is exactly what I was looking for. Would you
be so kind as to explain how you made it work?
My surface never came out correct. Top view looked good, but side view was curved. Hard to put a picture of what was happening into words.
anyway thank you for the corrected drawing.
Karl
Hi all,
I'm just beginning to learn 4 axis stuff and
I do not know how to do what I want. Imagine 3 cables grouped into circle, now twist the far end 120 degrees. I created a spline which follows the
arc around but the surface doesn't come out right.
I put the rough draft on the ftp site in the uploads dir as imts_demo. Thanks in advance

Hi All,
My name is Karl. I've been at my main job for 17 years. Started cranking handles, then transferred to the n/c side of the fence. I have always been good with a computer so I was allowed to play on the thing. One thing lead to another and now I'm the official Programmer. I'm also called the assistant Sys Op, Setup Man and last but not least Operator. We do mostly 2d but am learning 3d with help from you guys now and then.
After hours I assist in teaching Mastercam and CNC at a local community college.
Work is verrrrry slow right now a few layoffs but I think things will be alright.Enrollment at our college is terrible to. Usually when the
economy is bad students flock to learn, but not here.
thanks all for the good advice
CadCam,
Thanks for the info. Will call this morning.
Have you gotten cables from them before? Do they do service calls to do the hookups and configurating also? If so where is the home base located?
Karl
Hi all,
I know this is not really a mastercam question, but with all the experts here just thought I'd ask.
Anybody have any experience with wiring up an older fanuc 6t to a computer for program loading (not DNC). The cable that was on the machine (not working) had a different wiring pattern then I have ever seen. I thought a standard null modem cable should work. but no luck there. is there a diagram for a cable that is designed to work with a btr?
any help would be greatly appreaciated
Thanks,
File is in the FTP site as ellipse.mc8.
The 7.5 radius around the ellipse to create a dome shape. While on this subject, Which toolpath
would be quickest for this shape. It is going to be in walnut so surface roughness won't be to much problem.
Karl
Hi All,
I need to drive an arc around an ellipse to create
a dome shape. Creating the ellipse and arc is no problem. How do I get a surface (revolved??) to follow this shape.
Thanks
Hi all,
It's late so if this has been answered already please forgive..
I just got XP installed but mastercam hasp will not install correctly. I keep getting a error writing to the registry. I tried manual hinstall -i but still no luck! No one else i spoke to had any trouble with XP.
P.S. I am set up as admin
Hi,
I did talk to someone @ mastercam who had a post. I didn'y get a name but they said they would e-mail it to me. Never heard back
Not even that they could not find it after all these years.....
Anyway will keep looking
Thanks
Hi,
Does any body have a working post for a bandit control. I had an old post for ver 5.0
it was an actual com file. I could not get it to work in ver 8.
Thanks
Hey All,
Thanks for all the help. I came in on the weekend and installed win 2k (don't tell my Sys. Op. guy please!!!).Right I've got it dual booting so if any body asks I still have the original operating system. The news is great ....White cursor on black background.
Will keep win2k on till i'm forced to.
The network powers don't seem to be bothered so everything is good
Thanks again!!!!!!!
GCode,
I don't know..I didn't turn them on or off shouldn't it be on by default? Would the driver setup turn it off?
I'll try to make time to install the 21.81 drivers again. Every time I get a minute something turns up that needs done yesterday.
Hmmmm. I have not noticed any thing like that. I used one of the solid examples to check the graphics speed. i.e fully shaded rotation. With the old driver the rotation is about what I'd expect, but the newest was way clunky (no other way to describe it).I might just replace win ME with 2k (on the sly of course) just to try it out. Do I need to fdisk/reformat as ntfs to do this? If so I would try it on my home comp. first (750 mhz).
Hi,
Newest and greatest nvidia drivers were no good. Went to 20.81 detinator driver. ALL screen functions dropped about 30 - 50 percent. Maybe 'cause it's OEM???? Oh well gray is not too bad once you get used to it!
Thanks all
Hey thanks for all the advice. Sorry that none seem to work at this time. As to installing Win2k I personally would love to but it's not my computer. If I can convince the powers that be to let me try I'll let you know what results if any. So for now it's a dark grey background. Not to bad once I get used to it.
Hi All,
My company just bought me a new Dell 1.7mhz
that came with win ME installed. Very fast but in mastercam the mouse cursor is black and the background color is black. As a stop gap fix I changed the background to Dk gray. Anybody know how to change the mouse cursor color? This same mouse and driver worked on the old computer.
Thanks
Karl
