  1. I tried to post the same file to c:test.nc It comes up in mcedit. Also tried same file, same post to c:test_more_8_char.nc still comes up in the mcedtor. Thanks for the quick reply Any other suggestions? It just did it again with the same file 1'st time in mcedit, after a regen in cimco edit
  2. Anybody else have this problem. Under screen config I have the editor set for mcedit. Every once in a while when I post a file it opens in the cimco editor. I can't seem to make it do this on cue, but it seems to happen more frequently in certain files. Ver 8.1.1 (Boss cant afford 9 yet (if ever)) Win XP home Karl
  3. Like any other place with a captive audiance(sp), the food and beverages are expensive!
  4. Thanks for the good? stories. We were very lucky that no one was hurt. Funny thing is the window did not even crack!! I replaced the taper pins after re-aligning the turret. All is well. til the next one anyway. The operator is sure a h**l of a lot more careful now. He checks every thing at least 10 times. We don't ever scrap a wheel so there are none to give away Sorry Chris karl
  5. Hey all, We had one of our lathes crash big time yesterday. Literly (sp?) blew the door off. The part flew 10 feet after removing the door and hit another machine hard enough to bend the door so it will not close. Any one else like to tell their story? Karl
  6. We (Budnik Wheels) get all of our rims from specialty rims or american rims supply. If you need the phone #s let me know. Karl
  7. I took an intermediate class at the local cummunity college here, more than 5 years ago. The rest is self taught or from this great forum. Thank to all who have helped. Karl
  8. Thanks for the reply Brian. We were using 115200 baud. This should have been 3x what was needed. The Technical supprot says the processor board is going bad. ($3700) ouch. Karl
  9. Thanks CMR. The controller shows 60% free (5,000,000) free space. Karl
  10. When we use the sihler comm package there is nothing running but windows (XP PRO). With the Mastercam only mastercam is running.
  11. Thanks for the reply James, We use a Haas control. Is there any way to tell if this is the problem? The Haas people have not been much help on this one. Karl
  12. Hi, We ran a 50 mb program last week using DNC. The problem was after about an hour we had to slow down the feed rate at the machine to avoid data starvation. The program is 1 pocket tramsformed 5 times. The first pocket ran great i.e no slow-down. By the time the 4th pocket was cutting we were overriding down to 15% of the programmed feed (60 ipm). What should have taken 4 hours took over 12 hours. Anybody ran into this before? I ran into this same problem from 2 different computers and 2 different softwares (shiler and Mastercam communications). Karl
  13. Thanks rekd for the quick reply. Using turbo does not allow me to zoom or remove chips so I can see inside a pocket. I was hoping for a way to speed up the tru-solid option.
  14. sorry, I'm running MC ver 8.1.1 on a pent. 4 2.4 ghz with 512 ram and win XP.
  15. What are the tricks to get the MC verifier to run faster. I increased my stepover to .1 just so the verifier would finish in my lifetime. The surface in not huge but even at this large stepover the verifier takes over 7 minutes for 1 pocket (of 6). Karl
  16. Thanks James, That worked as soon as I changed my post block. Karl
  17. Is there an easy way to change the date output in a post from day-month-year to month-day-year. thanks karl
  18. First Cam software was Nicam III running on a pdp-11. Cost the company 25k just for the hardware. It had a then enourmous 5 MEG hard drive and two floppies (5 1/4 combined storage was 128 k). We splurged on a monitor though it would do 3 colors red blue and green.
  19. Jeff, One way we use is to click on the geometry for the toolpath in the operation manager. Then right click on the chain to change. From this menu choose change at point. This works for ver 8.1, but I don't know about ver 9. Karl
  20. Thanks again for the replys. What I ended up doing was to do a pocket leaving .02 stock, projecting it to the surface, then running the hi-feed on the result, then doing a contour and project. Works well. 1'st pass runs at slower feed then ramps up to max. Finish pass then slows to get fine finish on the walls. A little time on the computer saves a lot at the machine. Our operators here do not change feed rates rick, but thanks for the tip. Karl
  21. Thanks for the tip Steve, I ran the hi-feed with a savings of 38% in the computer. I will try to run the code at the machine and see what happens. Jay thanks for your help but creating the surfaces needed would be time consuming for me. I am still not by any means an expert on surfacing. one for you too! Karl
  22. Thanks Jay for the quick reply. Will rough pocket spiral allow me to chain islands? Karl
  23. Hi all, When doing a pocket for projection onto a surface, we use spiral outside to inside. Is there any way to change the feed after the first spiral. The first is full cut diameter, after this pass it is just taking the stepover amount. MC 8.1.1 level 3 Thanks Karl
  24. Sorry the file is impeller-1.mc8 on the FTP site (thanks jay). My network went down very near the start of the upload the first time. Impeller.mc8 is imcomplete and can be deleted. Karl
  25. Peter and Dan, Thank you for the responces. Analyze solid did not give me any info on the integrity of the solid. Yes it was created in mastercam. The tool-paths do not seem to recognize the center curved hub and as such mill thru the part. I placed the part on the FTP site as impeller. It's in the ver 8 directory. I also created surfaces to machine with limited luck. There were gaps in the surfaces and an untrimmed surface. Thanks again
