  1. Hi all, When doing a toolpath on a solid model I keep getting the following error: Error processing solid SP-Curve lies off surface. Anybody know what this means? Using ver 8.1.1 lev. 3 + solids and win XP home( yuck ) Thanks Karl
  2. Happy Hollidays to all. Thanks for all the help throughout the year.
  3. Thank You Marc, This answered my question. I scaled the solid by .0001 so the faces would overlap a bit. Now no problem Karl
  4. Hi, I'm tring to remove a profile from a solid with ver 8.1. I get an error that says : Boolean error- Face imprinting operation failed. I tried creating a solid then removing and revolving the profile to cut the body with the same error. Anybody know what this error means and how to fix it? Karl
  5. Hey John@home, Good to hear from you. I have to agree with the penny wise.... I thank you for all the help you gave me. I will use my college connections to listen for a job. E-mail me @ [email protected] Talk to you later. Karl
  6. Tony, Thanks for the offer but as david s. said you guys have jobs to do also. I need to do it in order to learn it. I'm just looking for tips! I will e-mail it to you though. The problems I had were with the shallow sides. My first thought was a pocket project path to the solid surface. This looked to be jumping up and down (rapid up move rapid back down) instead of following the sides down. Thank You Karl
  7. David S. I was only asking for opinions an how to do my job better. Just because there are no toolpaths in the file I uploaded don't assume that I "have not done anything". I did try some toolpaths on this and did not like the results. As to "Why did your boss hire you?" He hired me to do lathe programming. Since I know mastercam I am trying to help out with mill. I also didn't want to mis-align John. My purpose in saying that there was a virus was to inform the people who helped that this was possibly a reason as to why mastercam had a lot of problems. As to XP Pro, home is limping along now so pro automatically moved to the very back burner.
  8. Hi again, I think I the solid that I had so much trouble with. Now whats the best way to machine it? The file solid.mc8 on the ftp sight under the mc8 directory is what I need to machine. I will use a 3/4 ball EM do do the cutting. Any sugestions are helpful from a learning standpoint. thanks in advance Karl@budnik
  9. Jay, I also am sorry 'bout john. He was only here 3 months. I liked working with him I learned a lot. PS after he left we found a virus in his ( mine now )new computer. After the MAJOR cleanup (including FDISK) and new win install there have been no problems with MC and XP home. I have the video setting all the way up with no problems. Still would like to know where that virus came from. He was very careful 'bout e-mail and such. Thanks all Karl@budnik
  10. David, The file remove2.mc8 gives the error - Boolean add would result in disjoint body - with an OK button then - error reapplying operation. Regen not complete.- with an ok button. After this the solid on level 1 show on the screen with no cuts of any kind????? I think I didnt make myself clear in my first post. I need the shape form level 5 to create the spoke pattern. Just removing the top profile will not do what I need. (I don't think so anyway). Karl@budnik
  11. Hi All, I am having a problem with solids. I placed a file in the ver 8 dir of the ftp site named remove.mc8 I would like to boolean out the solid on level 5 from the solid on level 1. I get an error stating - operation would result in non-manifold body -. What is a non-manifold body? Am I going about this all wrong? any and all sugestions will be welcomed. For those of you who helped john@budnik thank you all Unfortuneitly he is not @budnik any longer thanks all!!!!! Karl@budnik
  12. Hi all I just got a new system at work.(sony vaio 2.25Ghz 512 ram) Only problem is built on video Would like any info on what kind of card runs MC(ver8.1)well. Price is a big concern! I'm sure this has been asked before. Is there any way to search past posts so as not to ask same question ? Thank to all ps Cad Cam is there any way to change my name. I have changed jobs and the old one is not good any more? Karl@budnik
  13. Thanks for all the advise Cadcam I will machine that part tonight and will let you know how it goes. Charles I will get that book ASAP. I work at the local community college and the theory is good ( I took the advanced class) but there is no machining done on what we drew. again thanks to all who replied
  14. Hi all, I work for a manufacture of machine tool accessories in so. cal. We use V8.1 level 1 only. I'm mostly self taught but would like to move forward. I was passed over for a better job because I don't know surfacing. My question is how do I move into 3D. I placed a file into CadCam's FTP site (thanks Cadcam) in the mc8 folder named practice.mc8. Which surface toolpath would be best to machine this shape and why? I teach part time (CNC) at a local community college so I have access to level 3 and a machining center (a fadal) to cut alum. with. I would like to get advise or opinions. Hopefully this thread will help any other newbies like myself to improve the mastercam talent pool. Thanks Karl S.
  15. Thanks for the replies Your sugestions worked like a 1,000,000 bucks In hind sight it all seems so easy. Karl
  16. Sorry I pressed reply before message was finished Output fron above postblock looks like this: n1 n1 n1 n1 n1, G0 G17 G40 G80 G90 G99 thanks Karl
  17. Hi All, How do I add a # symbol to the nc file? Post Block looks like this: psof0 # Start of file for tool zero 1001 n, "(2 PALLET PROGRAM)" n, "(X,Y ZERO AT COLD START POSITION) n, "(Z ZERO IS TOP OF PART)" n, "#:START", e n, "#CLEAR V10", e ... ... n, "G0 G17 G40 G80 G90 G99"
  18. Hi, I work at Criterion hence the @criterion, depending on the tolerance you need to hold we have twin cutters that would do this size of bore but setting to tenths NEEDs a presetter. Almost impossible to do without. Also if boring head goes through a tool changer some of the less expensive heads change size. The Cri-Bore system can be bought as a tenth head and we use it in our own shop. It works well in a tool changer Happy Boring! Karl
  19. The unsimple fomulae for those interested is (Thread O.D.)-((.01299*Thread Percentage)/Threads per Inch)= Hole Size or for metric threads (Thread O.D.) - ((Thread Percentage* Pitch)/76.98)= Hole Size Karl
  20. Use G84.1 This turns on rigid tapping you will need to put a Fxxx for spindle speed and a Q.xxxx which is the pitch. If you don't have rigid tapping (an option I think) use G84 instead with the same Fxxx and Qxxx The G code disables the spindle override and the feed override so it does not need to be set to exactly 100%. Hope this helps Karl
  21. There is a formula which will tell you what size hole to drill given what thread percentage and major diameter... E-mail me if you need it ([email protected]) I will have to look for it.
  22. The multicam routers that simtech mentioned are a great deal for the money. Ane the tech sopport is pretty good. There are 12 service centers around the nation with good people manning (or womanning) the phones. karl
  23. Good day all, Has anyone seen this problem before? The post from our cd for a cincinnatti 850 lathe. It seems to work fine until I add a drill cycle then I get this n10 z1.585 n20 g81 z1.01 r1.585 f.003 n30 g0 z1.735 :1 (rough turning tool path) ~ ~ ~ ~ :2 (drilling cycle n190 t11 m6 ...... n200 g0 x8. z4. m8 n210 x4.116 z1.735 n220 m9 n230 g0 x8. z4. ... ... ... the top n10 thru n30 should be between n210 and n220 this post file in right off the MC cd. anybody have a good cincinnatti lathe post?
  24. Sorry I sent reply before I relised that I forget to tell where I put it. It's in the unspecified uploads directory on the FTP area. Karl
