tool path

when i do a tool path on a angle it shifts the z axis and shows the tool path below the part. any line that is level is ok. if i come to a 90 deg, line it shifts the z axis .01. can some body tell why this is going on?

check what plane it says in the T/Cplane button in the op parameters. Should say Top or 1. What level and version of MC do you have. Maybe you could put the file up on the FTP and someone can take a look.

ver 9 tryed changing the t/c plane and get the same thing. the tool path is lower the the part.

The tool comp is prolly the culprit here. The comp on wire frame toolpaths only calcs the tip or center of tool. If you change the tip comp to center it should be ok.

ok now showes the the tool path at the center of the tool but the z axis is still moved .01 in + dirc.where it should be -5.000 it is -4.990

the file is on the ftp under new folder

Do you have your stock to leave with .01 this would cause that. Also do you have the dia of the tool different on any of the pages.

on lathe it could be in the way tool is comped. double click on tool and go to last tab. At bottom left there are 4 choices of tool comp.

i think i found the problem changed the ldefault.df9 to ldefltm.df9. but still showes the path below the part instead of on the tool line on the angles but calulates out proper in the program file. if i use the center of the tool nose raduis then it showes the path properly. if any knows why mastercam does this would you please tell me. i can be reached at [email protected] and thank you all for the help. am know trying to make post for okuma 5000l for Lc40 30 LB15 should have studed harder in school

the blue line is the programmed path. The 4 different kinds of comp determine wear that will be in relationship to the cutter. (The 4 dif comps are the ways you touch the tools off)

It's the nose radius compensating for the theoretical tip of the tool. It would have been good to know this was a lathe part in the initial post! Most likely, if you zoom in on that point in Backplot and turn on "show Path Y" the blue lile representing the tip will be right in line with the part edge.

I want to thank everyonr for there help. to see the proper cutter path i had to turn on verfy in the back plot. it still shows the line below the true cutter path but with verfy you can see that the tool is cutting the proper path. again THANK

Look at the icon on his initial post you'll see he used the lathe icon to reference that it is a lathe job.

I program lathe with tool tip and compensation set to computer.

I never seem to have this problem as you describe.

My cutter path is right on my part geometry.

This baffles me.

In lathe, the blue path, when computer

compensation type is used, shows below

the geometry ( thoretical sharp point

- no tool nose radius ) If you switch to

control type compensation, it removes

the shift for the tool nose radius and

puts the thoretical sharp point right

on the geometry. I believe this is how

machinist used to program before cam systems

came about.

I'm sorry,I misunderstood the question.

I meant that when I backplot the part the tool tip is right on my part geom.

But yes,the actual "blue" cutter path is not.

Iowajim: I stand corrected (again ). I'm new here and still getting used to all the little stuff. Gotta start wearing my glasses to surf the forum .

 

Brendan: Yea I said that @$$_backwards. I meant that the blue line will show the actual XZ pocition of the theoretical tip. The Nose rad will follow the geometry.
