OT: Windows Explorer trick

Copy and paste the following into the "Target" field in the properties of your Explorer shortcut.

Replace the "F:" with your desired path. Now, every time you open Explorer, you'll open right to your destination directory.

No Murlin, I wish it was. I don't even use "My Documents" but that seems to be the default for most save options. I'm sure there's a registry hack to change this.

 

At work, it's set up to open to the "Jobs" folder. At home, I have multiple hard drives. I want it to open to my storage drive, thus the F: in my example. You could have it open to C:Murlin, or whatever you like. No sense navigating to the same folder that is commonly used every time you open explorer.

But why don't you try Total Commander? Total Commander's web address

It's the best and fastest file management with many other tools like ftp,LPT connection,packing archives,multi rename, editing reg, much more ... I've seen. Been working with it since 1998.

Not to mention Total Commander is a 32 bit app but you can download 16bit versions for win3.1 if you want.

This trick is great, but is there a way to show all drive trees collased by default. There are enough drives on the network that opening explorer with all collapsed would be useful. Thanks, Tim

Windows key + E is the best way!

Windows key + F for find

Windows key + R for run

Windows key + D for desktop

Windows key + M for minimize all

Shift + Windows key + M for unminimize

Windows key + Pause/Break for Device Manager/System Props.

Problem is sometimes tricks are obscure and even too many hours in front of the screen sometimes doesn't yield same tricks for different people. Talk about too much useless knowledge, who remembers using edlin in DOS to labor over batch files and such?

I tried edlin and quickly returned to Norton Commander.

I use Windows Commander from 1993 for Windows 3.11.

I like FAR too .

I never use Explorer (It is weaker and slower )

I used Norton Commander for dos .

And I remember XtreeGold

In lInux I use Midnight commander and FileRunner .

Total Commander, the first application I use to run every time I login. I can't live without.

For just a $30 you can do alot of things and save hundreds of hours a year. Something that Explorer+Bunch of other utilities can't do.

One of the great Wincom things is skip/skip all option (why Explorer lacks it ,I really don`t know )

I like it`s FTP client too (very moderate ).

I like built in archivers ,history ,shelling ,feed search results to the feed box ,compare by contents ,multirename tool ,print file list with subdirectories and more .

And it really not matters me ,what the Explorer tricks are .

PS Do you know that you can use progman.exe old stiled shell for Windows instead of Explorer ,when you have problems with Explorer ?

I never use Explorer so I don't know whether it has skip function or not. )

Anyway, TC has some very useful plugins too.
