contour pecking motion

greetings all.

I have another question you may be able to help me with. when using a surface finish contour on a diameter during the first few passes of the cut I get a pecking motion I have tried everything I can think of to eliminate this ( it makes the finish look like !@#$ ). The closest I can get is using the c-hook "tpcfg" but that addes a flat bottom where there should be a thru hole.

This about a Surface COntour Toolpath?

I'd try high speed and play with the ramp motion (distance and angle). I have a difficult time with contour also when it works the surfaces come out bitchen! (maby scallop?)

this happens when using tool with corner radius. Switch off the roll cutter on corners and switch on don't roll, tool will stop pecking movements.

Chip It does the same thing on high speed although not as bad

Cadist I have the the boundry set to stay inside

Are you using a containment boundary?

Yes I have the containment set to stay inside and in the advanced settings I have it set to only between surfaces

Maby adjust your step over a bit 'Greater' .002 .003 (just to see if it stops generating pecks). go from there. I rarely get a perfect path with contour.

Have you checked into your gap settings

Give yourself a little negative offset in your containment boundary. if your total tolerance = .001 give yourself a negative offset of .0011, you get the idea. That should take care of it.

Chip my step is set at .001

midwest my gap is set at 200% It was 300 no differance

I set it from 150 to 100 and now it only retracts twice
