mastercam x4 cant get passed startup tasks

windows did an update the other day and this happend

There was an series of Nvidia drivers that had a bad OpenGL implementation for some graphics cards a few years ago... Maybe windows helpfully installed one for you?  What version driver and what video card are you using?

I COULDNT TELL YOU BUT THE ONLY PROGRAM THAT IS NOT WORKING IS MY MASTERCAM X4

Well, what's your computer specifications?

Might try doing a reinstall and see if that helps.

These old versions had all kinds of issues with .net

I can't tell you how many times the .net framework had to be completely uninstalled and reinstalled to get them running...

I might also suggest removing the config file from the folder and let X4 attempt to make a new one.

It's been 15 years since X4 came out.

If this was a modern release, I'd delete the workspace file, but I don't think X4 has one.

It ran on Win XP Win 7 and Win 8

I assume you are running Win10??

I think I'd try right clicking the desktop X4 shortcut , select Properties and play with the Compatibility settings

You are correct, those versions has the .mtb file...

Either way, I'm still betting on an nvidia driver issue.

It could be.

10 or 12 years ago I came to work one morning and the entire programming department was down.

Mastercam could not get past the startup screen. After a lot of trial and error I figured it out.

A Windows update had installed the Windows version of Nvidia Quadro drivers and Mastercam was failing to launch.

I uninstalled those drivers and reinstalled genuine Nvidia drivers and we were back in business.

I remember that happening a few times during the X series when I was workin' the ol support hotline for Centroid. 

 

There was also the Intel series 22.xx of drivers that had problems with OpenGL.  Could be that as well.   Without knowing the video card, we'll never know

Thanks guys now its saying no sim so guess im going to download 2024 for free for the first year for now

 

I hand wright most all my programs anyways. Its faster for me that way been doing it for 35 years

If that's the case, you are most likely only doing the simplest of work.

I think Windows Update wiped out your hasp drivers, and the modern drivers are not available on your 14 year old installation discs.

If you go to Mastercam.com and download and install these drivers, you may be able to get X4 running again.

The problem is, you need a working hasp to create an account on Mastercam.com.

You may need to email [email protected] to get a copy of these drivers. 

Be sure to include your Hasp # in any emails.

It's possible your local Mastercam dealer may help you but after being off maintenance for so long they may not
