Thanks bryan wink.gif

Jamman, here's what you'd do:

Install Linux

Install VMWare Workstation for Linux

Install Windows into a VMWare Workstation virtual machine

Install Mastercam

Haven't done it yet (I'm crazy busy, of course wink.gif ) but in theory, it should work. It wouldn't be as zippy as a real Windows install but it should, at the very least, run.

It was covered ...by me .do a search on VMware and forum member 498 and you`ll find info .

I am an old Linux fan ,I run Linux in 1994 -1995 and use it for this day .

But every thing has it`s place .

When CNC Software `ll port MC for Linux I will be the first( I think it will not happen in the near future ) .

But to use it under VMware is a senseless thing.

Is Win2000 pro not stable enough for you ?

Linnux is my home multimedia system ,a system for crazy things to do and main repair tool .

But on my work place I use win2000 pro and I feel comfortable with it .

Teh kernel panic

Bullines...ok it's "is an Open Source implementation of the Windows API on top of X and Unix" smile.gif I stand corrected smile.gif

For everyone else..

quote:

Think of Wine as a Windows compatibility layer. Wine does not require Microsoft Windows, as it is a completely alternative implementation consisting of 100% Microsoft-free code, but it can optionally use native system DLLs if they are available. Wine provides both a development toolkit (Winelib) for porting Windows sources to Unix and a program loader, allowing many unmodified Windows binaries to run on x86-based Unixes, including Linux, FreeBSD, and Solaris.

And.....

quote:

VMware Workstation works by enabling multiple operating systems and their applications to run concurrently on a single physical machine. These operating systems and applications are isolated in secure virtual machines that co-exist on a single piece of hardware. The VMware virtualization layer maps the physical hardware resources to the virtual machine's resources, so each virtual machine has its own CPU, memory, disks, I/O devices, etc. Virtual machines are the full equivalent of a standard x86 machine.

VMware Workstation enables enterprise software developers to develop and test the most complex networked server-class applications running on Windows, Linux or NetWare all on a single desktop.

Brent teh copy and paste cheers.gif

I agree that Wine is better and better and will never run a high-end app, but it does run some ok. If you want to run a windows app...run it on a windows box...right? Someday maybe... headscratch.gif
