Everybody,

Is it me, or have the "high post count" posters in this forum decided that they are moderators? It seems like a lot of people come here to ask questions and are beaten down because of a small "syntax" error. About half of the posts here get taken over by people correcting petty mistakes.

If somebody types in all caps, they instantly get flamed. If you even come close to saying "sucks" you're all done for. Ask for a post...I don't even want to go there.

Why? What does this accomplish? If somebody types in caps, it's probably because they use caps for clarity. We all use caps for some things. Personally, I turn off caps lock when I am typing a letter, but I know better. Who cares. It's in context. THIS IS YELLING because I am using lowercase letters in the rest of my message.

If somebody says something sucks, that doesnt mean that when they figure out what they were doing wrong that they wont change their tune. Why waste time beating someone down when you can simply ignore the term "sucks" and offer advice to change their mind.

I get the feeling that people are trying to impress other forum members with their knowledge of the forum rules. I think that is childish. I think that the forum would be a better place if people would IGNORE things that they don't like instead of start a huge fire pointing them out.

I (go ahead and search my posts) ask pretty good (legit) questions and get crap quite often. I'm a good programmer, and have been using Mastercam since 3.x. DOS days to say the least. I get discouraged lately after posting. I feel that I constantly need to correct myself. Like I made a mistake or something.

I'm typing this with a good attitude. I'm not bashing anyone. I guess I'm asking that pepole be more forgiving in the future and stop making such an attempt to prove someboy an idiot. This forum WAS the s***. Now it's getting sad.

What do you guys think about this? I know I'mm not the only one.

Paul

Paul I think you have some good points, but then what doesthis have to do with this (Is it me, or have the "high post count" posters in this forum decided that they are moderators?) as I am the second highest and that really does not mean that much really just that I have been here alot longer and helped alott of the years.

I do agree that there is some times jumoing way to fast.

Hey Jay, you spelled "alott" wrong (among other things). biggrin.gif j/k

Paul, I've noticed that people get slammed for saying that certain features of MC suck. Most of the time, they deserved to get slammed. Try walking into a biker bar and yell "Harley's suck!" biggrin.gif

I've noticed people get told that they are yelling when typing in all caps. Personally, I don't care about that stuff. Some people are more critical of others as far as "netiquette" is concerned.

As far as spelling and grammatical errors go, we (I) like to give Jay and Crazy Millman a little razzin', but it's all in good fun. And they dish it right back when they get a chance.

I don't see a serious problem with any of these issues. Is there a particular instance that "broke the camels back" and made you start this thread? Even though we all want X to come out as bug free as possible, that doesn't mean that some won't get a little grumpy until it *does* come out.

I still find the forum to be a VERY helpful place and don't think that the level/quality of help has been diminished. Unless you're talking about some pretty recent happenings. Maybe because I haven't been around that much since the holiday break.

Am I one of the "moderators?"

Paul,I personally feel that the forum has gotten a lot better as far as beating up people.

When someone joins here, and the first thing outta their mouths is crap, nobody is going to listen to it.

I feel that it is the responsibility of the nooby to read the forum guidelines (and abide by them) as recommended by the owners of this place who actually wrote the guidelines, not the top posters.

You make some good valid points and maybe we can all become better and more forgiving. wink.gif

Paul,

Some of the high count ppl are moderators.

Hopefully you feel better now gettin that off your chest so to speak. I hear what your sayin but I think ur barkin in the wrong doghouse biggrin.gif

Don't take it so personally since you have no idea what the other persons mood might be at the time they type a reply to you. Just take the free knowledge and cruise on bro cool.gif

Why should sit here to listen to someones tears.

We all come in here to help each other, not to hand

out tissues.

I personaly believe that alot of new comers do not read the forum guide lines, and that is pretty sad in my opinion.

I do not think that people with high post counts are taken the role as moderators, but the fact is that the people with the high post count are normally checking in here on the forum many times a day, there for they are also some of the 1st. to comment on a question (what are getting them highpost counts in the 1st. place). My self for a fact as asked alot of questions here on the forum, and my english is not very good, what many times results that my message is not getting 100% throw, however I can not recall any time were I have felt that I was bassed.

Caps, when someone is using these I honestly fell that they are yelling at me. This is a commen rule all over the internett.

This forum is such a great place, users helping other users. Some people come trew like they are asking a question to a customer rep, from Mastercam insted of just another user. When someone say that something in Mastercam sucks, is like saying to a proud Ford Truck owner that Ford can not make a rear axel that can pull 1/2 ton, people are going to shut back.

Paul I am not taking your post negative, and I dont know what categori you will put me in, the one that ask the idiot question rolleyes.gif , or the one that bassing people bonk.gif , I dont think that this forum is a fast jumping forum.

Just my 2 cents.

I'm sorry, I should have said "some". It's not my intention to point fingers. I'm trying to address the overall attitude on the forum.

Yeah, the last thread I posted about "edit operation defaults". I was asking for help there, and things started to heat up. Nothing got out of control, but warm. I ask questions about things, and I spend the rest of my day wondering if I should even bother.

Paul I think thats where alot of things go bad.

There is so much damn knowledge in this place

that almost any given problem is solved by a simple

question being asked. I for one take it personal

when somebody trashes something I make a good living

with. Along with trashing the good people who make it.

If your issues are that bad why would you want

to rant at your peers. Email QC.

Yeh, I agree, If you're not on a Harley. We're Mastercam users...All of us.

My point was that if you bash something in the presence of it's "followers," you're naive to think that you won't "hear about it," whether you too use it or not.

This isn't even worth arguing about.

My point IS that i'm not bashing. Maybe i'm upset at the time, etc. Complaining about something you use everyday is not bashing. I recommend Mastercam to anybody that asks about it. I've been using it for many years, and I wouldn't give it up.

Other than a few odd balls here and there, this place is great. biggrin.gif

Still trying to figure out the weird connection so many Mastercammers seem to have with "Winnie the Pooh". That and putting "teh" letters in the wrong order on purpose but hey... whatever floats the boat. That's all I can complain about right now so I'm doing pretty damn good. lol

Best not to take things too seriously on the internet.

I agree with you though... people are real quick to correct but keep in mind that it aint exclusive to this forum. It's a netwide phenomonon and probably more so from the youngins than anyone else. Hell, I'm just happy when I can read through something one time and get it! I could care less about a few misspelled words here and there.

Best to follow the advice Dale Carnegie gave so many years ago on dealing with people. Just expect them to be at some degree of egotism and defensiveness... not to mention, everyone wants to be important. So, handle with kid gloves. lol

Take care,

ChuckM

Paul,

I agree with everything you have stated in your post.

I am relatively new to this forum. I have not posted many replies or questions, but what I have done is read a lot of the topics in here. I have never been on any other forum before this one. I don't know all the proper jargon. I don't spend alot of time on the net so learning the proper techniques for talking to people on the computer may take a while for me to get. I 37 years old been machining for 17 years and I damn sure don't know everthing there is to know about this trade or mastercam, been doin that for about 5 yrs, some people get intimidated by computers and by CNC equipment. That causes a relatively smart person to ask some silly questions sometimes. I had fella tell me one time that the only stupid question is the one you've already asked. A lot of doin this trade is confidence, some of you guys don't do alot to bolster that, with smart a$$ remarks about the question being stupid or something. Just try and remember when you were newbies.

Now don't take me wrong there is a lot of good goin on around here, but sometime the ego is a little thick. I do like coming here to read and learn so I hope that I don't end up in an unmarked grave for this. And if I do well so be it. I'll just go somewhere else. I've got more I could say but I think I've said enough for today. I'll go ahead and apologize now if I have offended anyone.

Hopefully it will all be taken as constructive critisism.

Tim,

You don't really feel that way, do you? headscratch.gif I challenge anyone here at the forum to find a thread where someone asked a question and people jumped on him for asking a "stupid question."

I'm sorry you feel that way.

Thad,

That didn't come off the way I wanted it to.

I mean while the question isn't regarded as stupid the way someone asks a questions sometimes is. If a person forgets to include enough information in their initial question, is it necessary to tell them that their question sucks because they forgot to include it. If we want to encourage people to come to this forum isn't it the responsibility of the more experienced people to be courteous to them until we're sure they know how to ask a question. I refer you to a topic from today called "taping".

"Not to offend you ,but first of all the question sux !"

Why would we try to offend in the first place.

a sorta "Killem with kindness" kind of thing.

I don't know........ just ignore me and maybe I'll go away.

I ride rice rockets too. I ride with harleys. I ride with anyone. If their stuff sucks, I tell them. If they have attitudes, I tell them that too.

I'm not gonna pull any punches with anyone. I'm sorry if you feel 'hurt' by my replies in the above mentioned post, but that's the way I am, and that's how I feel. tongue.gif

If you're talking about this post:

quote:

BTW, I'm a huge fan of: "If it seems broke, take another look or ask someone, it might just be operator error"

Then look at why I wrote that in the first place, then go back and re-read your initial thread to the 'forum', and see if things add up. wink.gif

'Rekd teh tell it like it is
