Computer turns off

Recommended Posts

An overheated cpu or graphics card will do this.

Run Sisoft Sandra and give her the torture test.

Another idea is to open the case to observe these fans are indeed running at speed.

This might even be a loose ram stick as well. Motherboards today employ many safety features to protect against burn out.

Regards, Jack

Scott333-sys recovery = write event, send, and restart all checked

Event log says system reboot after bugcheck

mikeb-seems to only do it with MC / no new hardware

Chris_m - Katie is only a factor after 11:00 when she wanders into work

Bullines- It just turns off, then reboots

MayDay - squirrel not in cage, but on cpu for fyrin'

Rekd- will refrain from pushing cycle start button on front of box.

Jack - What is this Sissoft Sandra of which you speak?

Since it's rebooting, let's see if it's Blue Screening and automatically rebooting or not.

WinKey+Pause/Break to get your System Properties dialog up. Click on the Advanced tab. In the Startup and REcovery group, click the Settings button. In the System Failure group is a checkbox called Automatically Restart. Uncheck that bad boy.

Next time, if your computer Blue Screens, make note of everything that it says and report back. If it reboots and there's no Blue Screen at all, then let this run for a few hours to rule out bad RAM. Bad RAM does bad things.

PS: My home computer randomly reboots right now and I've narrowed it down to a bad stick of RAM. A lot of "rebooted from a bugcheck" error in the System section in the Event Viewer.

Jimmy, ditto on the ram. Had a brand new pc right out of the box from prototek up here and being the bright individual I was I thru some more cheap ram in right away. Cheap was right, Stick was bad fromt the get go and caused the pc to reboot intermittently. Pissed off a few people trying to find out what it was that was causing it.

Good Luck!
