We run a 718 Inconel job faster than I've seen anywhere.

Here's the recipe:

1) 1.25dia X 3flt Kennemetal Facemill (.25rad inserts)

2)Kennematal ceramic inserts: KIPR125RP43540

3)4584 RPM and 41.25 IPM.

4).100" axial cut

5)Full dia cut

6)Run dry!

Oh yes..

7)50 taper horizontal mill.

You will see the prettiest color of orange-red chips spewing off the cutter. The work doesn't get hot and you get great cutter life.

HTH

Ceramics are the cat's butt for tough material, if you have the right setup. Rigid!!! Tried them on jethete job we had, no luck, to much vibration. But we were on centers. need a vise or something strong. Any vibration causes inserts to crack. If you have the right setup you can fly in incolnel, I think James stated in a previous post 800 sfm.

I remember cutting alot of inconel,(don't remember the Grade) 600-900 maybe, anyways...

some was inlay in submersibles, dragster valves and stub acmi threads.

One thing I learned doing it manualy was to run the correct sfm and heavy feed, cuts great that way. and thats with no coolant.
