fix thread

hello mastercam users,anybody fix a thread 3A class ,we need fix this but we dont want dammage the root radius .

Well first of all, what kind of thread are we talking about? Tapped hole, threaded boss, threaded shaft? Is a heli-coil an option?

3A class is an external thread. I have no experience with those, but can you recut the threads and than coat them?

How about a file, and then some emery cloth.

Yup 3A external 3B internal I should of thought of that.

this thread is 7/16 20UNJF 3A need keep dimension in mayor diam and minor diameter + picht dim. + bottom radius

What is wrong with the thread? If the major, minor and pitch diameter and bottom radius are already there, what could need to be fixed? I guess it could be smashed?

 

Please give more details because the answer is probably yes.

 

Also, what is the material?

You can re-cut any thread,as long as you pick up the lead.

On a cnc it's tricky,but we have done it many times.

Run the program with X offset up about 1/8" or so,see where the lead is.

And just offset Z start point on the + side accordingly to "blend" into the lead.

In other words the thread you will end up cutting will start farther away and end up in the same spot.

If its a damaged thread get a thread restoring die. You can purchase a standard UN die but to prevent damaging root radius of "J" series thread use a carbide reamer or boring bar to open up minor diam. J&L Thread Die
