Letters should be editable

It would be delightful to be able to click on the resultant text and change the size, content, font, ect., and have the toolpath update to bright shiny new text!

Have you tried create-letters. Type in what you want, place it where you want and then pick a contour toolpath to machine it?

What is it you're getting at?

 

Do you need mastercam to mill part #'s on your parts. It will do this but not numerically, AFAIK, you'll have to change them yourself.

 

What is it you're trying to accomplish?

Yup, that's how I does it Trevor. In my old software, I could double click the text and re-edit the text, font etc. MC just slaps down geometry that you have to delete and re-create to change.

Create>Drafting>note> edit text

 

Edit your text and reselect the text using a window, pick your start point and go, it should only take seconds to change your tool path.

You can create/next menu/letters and give a toolpath,but create /drafting/note...and then give the 'note a toolpath??

I dunno, in x there's "Create>Drafting>create note...", which does give me something I can edit with analyze..., but I cant pick that note as a chain for toolpath. A simple double click on the text would be nice....

You need to break the note into geometry. MC machines geometry not drafting dimensions or notes. Create letters is the best way to handle this.

Dude, I know of systems that can do this also. MC doesn't. Once its layed as geometry, thats it. You can't come back to it later and randomly edit the characters or font etc.

 

My solution to it was this. First create the text you want. Now copy the the text to another level. Go back to the original level and break the note to machine. Now if you want to edit the text, font, size, etc, etc, you just delete the "cut" geometry, edit the drafting on the "other" level and copy it to the original level for cutting. This way, you always have reference for the original text and you don't have to delete it to modify.

That's a good idea psychomill. We change the serial number in every lot. Alot. There's always version XI........

Dude: In the future you might want to start by telling us what you want to do, in the form of a question. "How can I create editable text in my drawing?".

 

This tells us what your hoping to acheive. From that we can come up with solutions. Because, as usual, Mastercam does do what you want, if your using the right feature.

I guess the question would have been. "how do I create editable engraving?" The program I "upgraded" from alowed my to double click the text and update the toolpath. Took 2 sec.

To touch on this again. Here is a website I came across. These macros will engave any lettering you need and should be simple enough to modify for you different uses.

DUDE, (just a thought, I haven't tried it) put your editible drafting entities on another layer and get them where you want tem to go. Turn them into geometry for machining on another level.

 

Then if you wanted to change the font, go back and do so on the edible entities. Then change your edited entities to geometry and repick your chaines in your existing ops. Just changing the size only requires yoiu to scale 'em...
