Tapping problems

I'm having problems tapping. I use the rigid tapping with a fadal 6535 with the 32mp control. I'm trying to tap a 1"-8 tap 1/2 deep into hot roll plate burnt out Blanchard ground and normalized. No luck (Spindle motor overload fault). I'm pretty sure the sales guy for fadal said I could tap up to 1.250 taps.........Should I be thinking about thread milling instead. I would like to tap all the way through the 1.5" plate but I would settle for 1/2 and then hand tap the plates the rest of the way..........

I'm using a Morse 1"-8 tap

Any suggestions

I am currently running 1" 8unc tap 1 1/2 deep in 1045 steel. 100 rpm, trim tap heavy fluid. tension/compression holder. Blind hole .5 deeper than needed for chips. Using Tin coated hand tap.

My boss will not buy spiral flute taps for blind holes. This is a repeat job, i have zero problems tapping. running on a Mori MV55.

I only use single points for rare threads

They take longer to generate a cycle since the entire length of the thread must be cut, where as the multiple flute cutters go around the hole once and cut the entire thread in 1 pass.
