Backing up files before installing X2

Recommended Posts

Please take a moment to read the following X2 installation issues. Please make sure that everyone in your organization that may take a phone call from a customer about installations receives this message.

Uninstall removes modified files

The issue to be aware has to do with uninstalling a previous version of Mastercam X. If you uninstall any previous version of X (X, X MR1, X MR2 and even X2) either using the recommend installation option in a Mastercam install or by using Add/Remove programs any default Mastercam file that was installed will be removed upon completion of the uninstall. If you have modified a file installed by Mastercam, it will be removed by the uninstall.

As stated in the documentation and the following Tech Tip on the Mastercam website, we recommend backing up any and all modified files prior to performing an uninstall.

This tech tip can be reached via this link http://www.mastercam.com/Support/TechTips/...precautions.htm.

Currently we are working on a backup utility that the user can run at any time. This utility will backup all user customized files into a folder structure allowing the user to remove a previous version of Mastercam without losing their customized files.

NOTE: The uninstall problem only affects files installed by the Mastercam installation (default Machines, Controls, posts, defaults, operations, KMP, MTB, etc). It DOES NOT affect any user created files.

X2 requires .NET 2.0 Framework

Mastercam X2 requires that the Microsoft .NET 2.0 framework must be installed on your system for Mastercam X2 to run.

The .NET 2.0 framework is NOT part of the web download, but it is part of the 2 Disk installation (Disk 1).

There is a note and link on the Mastercam X2 downloads page regarding the .NET 2.0 download.

X2 installations on XP64

If you are installing X2 on an XP64 machine, you will need to download and install the vcredist_x86.exe which is also available on the X2 Downloads section of Mastercam.com. If this File is not installed several components will not be registered during the X2 installation process and the user is notified of such.

All these issues have been documented on Mastercam.com as well as the Mastercam forum.

Thank you.

What is the status of this utility? Is it ready yet?

Can you also include the nethasp.ini file in the list of files to be backed up?

SAIPEM, I got tired of waiting so we created a batch file to speed the process of backing up, you could find it in our addons disk for Version X2 on our patches page.

In House Addons

The file is called back_up.bat, there is also a file to clean out the cnc_machines folder of the default stuff, it's called clean_up.bat

HTH
