opening MC7 Files

That’s what one of the other users here just told me. Now that just peachy, you use Mastercam for years, spending thousands and thousands of dollars on CNC’s software and now can’t open work produced on their software with the “latest and Greatest” software. What a load crap…

Thanks for the thought Hardmill, but this is going to be a long term problem here, I have gigs of MC7 files I need to access regularly. I’m going to have to reinstall V9, use it (which by the way freaks out the net hasp on our server and must be manually reset after using V9). I’m saving time and making money now! rolleyes.gif

Most software only goes backwards one version. Kinda hard to keep it all compatible through 5 versions, don'tcha think. When you had 9 installed why didn't you convert all your directories then? You can do a mass import. Then you would be able to mass import them into X2 and everything would be up snuff.

Truly amazing

V8, V9, X, XMR1, XMR2 ......

Still mc7

:headshake:

This is why I don’t post here much, before typing some dumb a$$ reply why not try to find out what the problem is or just STFU.

Yes it is a MC7 file, a design of a fixture built in 2000 that my customer wants another of made. Yeah so the file is a MC7!! What is “truly amazing” is how stupid some people here, MC7?? You act like I’m still running it.

Shame on me for not updating every one of thousands of MC files Toolcraft has and for coming in here pointing out a low point of Mastercam. Crappy AutoCad can open a six year old file Terry, one version back? Maybe on your planet.

Call Shopware and ask them how much money Toolcraft has spent over the years keeping current and how many seats are in use here. Maybe then your pea brain could comprehend why I feel that CNC Software inc. should have designed their software so that older versions could be accessed quickly and efficiently, isn’t that what one should want when paying annually for “updates”…

Well at least I am not the damned fool moron caught 4 + versions back because of your own damned laziness or ignorance.

Either way take your pick.

I'll just go back into my hole and STFU just for you

Things are great on my planet. Apparently not so on yours.

Thanks John, but just remember like so many threads that go south do so because of the likes of you.

Well, John has helped me on more than one occasion. Just reading some of the post from him, chipped tooth, feather brains, James and the likes you can learn alot. What John is saying makes a good point. If MC made compatiable files from the beginning the likes of you would find something to complain about. Just as they did when version X came out. Its simple reload V9 mass update it, and your done. No huge problem that I see. You could probably had it done with the time you have spent complaining on here. biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

My boss here was using mill6 up to just about 1 1/2 yrs ago, because of the nci based tp editor(I finally got him to v9). Now we have .ge3 through X2 files on the server, maybe we should just keep v6-current on our machines to save space(j/k) and funtionality without losing the time spent creating the toolpathes, files, etc.

I don't think it is too much to ask that all Mastercam files/geo should be convertable in the current version. Just because it is common for software companies to do something doesn't make it right.

Maybe we should all save our files as .igs or something other than a MCAM ext to make sure in the future on another computer with a newer version we can still get the geo. since as long as I can remember .igs has been covertable in mcam. still this is another step that really shouldn't have to be made as it takes time and the sofware should get better and save time/effort not make more work.

That being said for a work around:

There is another thread on this somewhere and a c-hook for doing this IIRC.

Contact your reseller...and maybe this will be addressed by Mastercam in the future.

I agree Troy,

I certainly have many 7,8,9 files archived.

And I occasionally have customers show up 5-10

years later asking for a job again. However I do keep hardcopys of geometry so it can be re-entered. I surely would not expect to have access to v7 toolpaths, but the geometry would be nice.
