wireframe to solid?

I have a cad file that I need to convert to a solid. Is there a program I can use to easily do this. we just got solidworks, but I have no training on it at all. can solidworks do this, or is there a way to do this in mastercam that I just dont know about?

are those surfaces Shawn/...if so then separate them on to different levels and the create solids from surfaces in mastercam

 

If they are not surfaces then you will have to create them as well before you can make them into solids

I have it in dwg, dxf, iges, obj, stl, and xti. and they all appear to be the same of the ones I can open.

In SW lookup the Help file for "2D to 3D Conversion". You convert the top, front, side views of the wire into sketches which are then used to build a solid. Depending on complexity, it can be pretty easy.

 

Btw, most users of SW don't get training so the help has some decent examples of how it works.

I know Rhinoceros has the ability to build surfaces from a network of wireframe curves. For $800 its the best surface modeling package you can buy.

oops, its gone up a bit since I last bought it. $895.00, but still the best money you will ever spend on a surface modeling program. No solids, but it will do things that most other software can't even touch. I would suggest that any serious designers in this forum would do well to download a 30 eval copy and go through the tutorials. Its an incredible program. I use it all the time to fix surface models and them import them back into Mastercam.

Rhino sounds interesting. How well does it do with revisions and model changes? Is it parametric like solidworks?

Not parametric, so modeling is more like MasterCAM surfaces. Still, at $895.00 it's a heck of a good deal even if all you use it for is to convert IGES files into something useful.
