Cutter Comp.

I'm sure this has been discussed before but we have a question about cutter comp. When programming in Mastercam what settings do we use to get Mastercam to generate the codes to tell the machine control to read offset tables. For example we're cutting a .500 dia. hole and it is undersize. We want to go into the table and tell it to be .001 bigger. How do we generate the code?

Use "wear", Mcam will output G41 or G42 in the program. The operator can than set the .001 rad or dia in the machines offset table.

For Wear comp, Mcam will program to the size of the tool and you would use an offset of zero to cut on size (-.0005 to have it cut .001 bigger)

 

Control comp you would put the RADIUS of the tool in your offset.

 

But Wear comp is more friendly and you will have less headaches with interference.

Not always the case. Some controls use radius and some use diameter.

Mine uses Diameter, but wear is the way to go.
