Threadmilling Toolpath Trouble

Hi Guys

I'm having trouble with a thread mill output.

I want to start in ctr on i.d. thread come out 90 degrees with comp cut my helix and comp off back to center. In the parameters I have start in center,

perp. entry only. No helix lead in/out is checked

and it cuts a circular lead in /out anyway and its

F-in up the part because its cutting into the side of thread making look like its cross threaded

It takes gage fine. I finally cut a circle and added in the "z" by hand. Anyone know why it will not just turn on comp, helix and turn off comp. confused.gif

I think he wants to start in the center, go straight to the start of the thread without any @#$*$ arcs and start full revolutions until it is finished and the go straight to the center without any @#$*$ arcs.

I reported this last year and was told it was a bug. It appears it is still not fixed.

I wish they would fix it too.

I am usin version 9.1 if that matters...

I unchecked the helix..lead in/lead out, start at center and put a 0 value in my entry/exit arc clearance, and everything came out.

I will double check it in the a.m. when I am at the work pc..but I am almost certain its doing what your lookin for. headscratch.gif

Mark,

People are still complaining about this on the emastercam forum.

See thread milling problems on 3/28/07

Any progress yet?

Best regards,

Doug

Mark,

I'm glad I made it clear.

I see what you have done and that works better but as you say it looks like a bug.

Can I get a bug report number so that I can track it?

Hope it gets fixed soon and thanks for taking a look at it.

Best regards,

Doug

Paul,

Read my post 4th from the top.

It always puts in some type of arc going from center start point to beginning of first thread.

We want it to go G1 to start of first thread and then make 360 degree cuts until it finishes.

It is the start up and end moves we don't want.

It appears to offer this in the menu but it does not work!.

I am curious as to the thought process.

Why would you want to plunge straight into a thread in this manner and cause all that tool contact at one moment?

What the entry helix accomplishes is easing the cutter into the material.

Do you guys have a machine issue or is this just the way you want to do it?

Due to the problems I have experiences with threading I have come to use contour ramp. By setting the ramp as distance, thread pitch, and the availabilty of unlimited lead-in lead-out adjustments I can do just about any thread.

I have been doing top down threads and have never tried bottom up. I don't see why it would not work.
