Hi, I was just wondering if anybody could help me out with this.

I have Mastercam X and was looking for the following post processors to work with my machines.

1.) Bridgeport 3-axis vertical mill. Using a Centroid M-15 cnc controller.

2.) SWI Trak Lathe. Using a ProtoTRAK VL cnc controller.

Thank you, any help is very much appreciated!

oh sorry, didn't realize I couldn't ask for a post. Well can somebody tell me on the Mastercam X cd, where I find all the posts? All I see once the program is installed is the following under this directory..

C:Program FilesMastercamXmillPosts

Generic Fanuc 3X Mill.pst

Generic Fanuc 4X Mill.pst

Generic Fanuc 5X Mill.psb

Generic Fanuc 5X Mill.pst

Mill2.SET

MILL.SET

MILLM.SET

MPFAN.PST

I thought there would be HUNDREDS of posts in there but there isn't.. so did I do something wrong on the install?

There is a link on the mastercam website that you can download the control/machine defs and posts however, I think you are going to find the posts you need on the V9 disc. I would get my hands on that if you can and search through the posts available on that disc.

Like I said though a call to your reseller is probably your best bet

That would be pretty much it. You can download MPMaster.pst from this website (link at the top of the screen under 'posts'). I don't know those machines at all, but if their code is anything other then (basically) standard Gcode, you will need to talk to your reseller. Typically they have a bunch (or access to) of odd balls that they may just give away.

MachineryMan.

My reseller provided me a post for our Southwestern Industries SMX 3 axis knee mill.

They should be able to provide the Anilam and lathe post from an earlier version .. ie, V9.

Just on the outside chance you are running an "evaluation" version with plans on a future purchase.. the reseller may try to help you out.

On the farside of the "free evaluation version" you may not want to ask for a post in this forum. Word has it when they are not in the marshmellow mode it will get pretty ugly.

Welcome Machineryman!

Be careful, a few of these guys are a little touchy when you ask the wrong questions.

But most everyone is great to work with and will give you lots of advice or point you in the right direction, anyway.

Just be respectful and they won't bite!

I just hope your retailer is not like mine...it takes them forever to answer anyhing to do with posts and when they do respond its usually " We would be happy to fix that up for you at $$$xx.000 per post".

Yeah, thanks for the help!

These guys are way smarter and a lot faster to help ya!

well here is my issue. I bought these 2 machines along with Solidworks and Mastercam X used from another machinest who was getting out of the trade. So therefore I have no direct reseller or dealer to go to. I am pretty much on my own. The guy that sold me these machines and software didn't ever use Mastercam for generating g-code. He just used Mastercam to draw parts with, and recently got Solidworks but he said it was too much of a learning curve to go to 3d. So therefore he got rid of the stuff since he no longer is machining anyhow. But when I installed MC X, I don't see all these POSTS that come with the software. And I'm sort of stuck with trying to get a post because again I don't have a reseller to go to. And I figure if I do go to a reseller, they are going to probably charge me a ton of money since I didn't buy the software through them.

So what are my options at this point?

BTW.. I hear that Solidworks and Mastercam X play very good together. I have gotten pretty good at Solidworks, I really haven't even tried making 3d models in Mastercam because I like the Solidworks interface much better. So would I be fine by just making my cad 3d models in solidworks, then opening them up in Mastercam X and generating toolpaths and G code through Mastercam? or does the Solidworks to Mastercam conversion require a lot more input from me to get it to work properly.

I guess I'm just trying to NOT have to draw parts in Mastercam, but instead do all the CAD work in Solidworks, but only use the CAM features in Mastercam. I hope this makes sense.. I'm still a bit new to this all so please don't flame me.

OK, no flame, but you do need to contact CNC Software.

You cant just buy the software from someone, the license cant be tranferred over that way.

You ought to contact the reseller near you so they can give you the

lowdown on transferring the software.

Who ever sold it to you didnt do it legally. frown.gif

+1

Find on Mastercam site who the reseller is for your region, call them and they should be able to help you transfer a license.

You really shouldn't have any problems, I'd hope.
