Crashing???

I spend at least 10 hrs a day in X2-Mr1-SP1

on 2 different machines and I honestly don't remember the last time I had a crash.

One of my co-workers had a crash last week, but it was caused by a known issue.

(5axis backplot with vectors off crashes X2)

I talked him into installing MR1-SP1 and that solved the problem.

I wish I had some advise to offer, but I don't

X2_MR1_SP1 is running beter that SolidWorks for me, and I never in a million years thought I'd be saying that. eek.gif

Brian's suggestion is a good one

.NET Framework 2.0 should be kept up to date.

The regular Windows update utility can take care of that for you.

YES,

I to have been having X2_MR1_SP1 crash.I hope someone can send it in to CNC software. My computer does't have the internet.Sometimes a box appears asking if you want to send in a report about the crash, I have tried to save as a file but can't find it after that.

This is becoming a REAL problem!!!!!!!!

Turning off save with bipmap seams to have helped.

X2 was very stable please help CNC software.

James,

My card is a FX 5700 GeForce

Should Win2K really be the problem?

with XP's known memory usage is this really a good option, or are we eventually going to be forced to switch anyways?

InHouse Solutions think it may be an issue with my Machine Def, but we are working on it.

Still, like to here your thoughts on what I asked above.

Cheers.

.NET Framework 2.0

It is a Microsoft program that is required

to run X thru X2.

and...

a clean install of Win 2000 SP4

will not properly install .NEt Framework 2.0

I wiped an old laptop and did a clean install of

Win 2000 then X2-MR1

I had a terrrible time getting X2_MR1 to run.

I ended up downloading and installing

a clean copy of.Net Framework 2.0

to get the laptop to run properly.

Microsoft is only giving lip service support to

Win 2000 these days and I suspect that

Win 2000 and the latest .NET are not as

compatible as they should be.

If you are running Win2K and having trouble,

it may be time to upgrade to XP.

Is XP an upgrade?

You can buy XP Pro as an upgrade or a clean install.

The clean install costs more and is way more

work, but its the better way to go IMO.

With a clean install, you've pretty much got a brand new computer when you are done.

James,

I'm not James biggrin.gifbiggrin.gif

Is XP Pro better than Win2K??

IMO no its not... there is nothing in XP Pro that

is worth the upgrade but...

Win2K is an old OS that is not recieving the support it needs.

Solidworks no longer supports Win2K and I suspect

Mastercam will drop it with the next major upgrade

(X3)

I know there are compatibility issues between

Win2K and .NET Framework 2.0 and X2 requires

.NET Framework 2.0

If Win2K and .NET aren't playing well, it could be causing your Mastercam issues.

If you're not up for the major sugery of an OS upgrade, try reinstalling .NET 2.0

Download a fresh install pack from Microsoft

uninstall and reinstall with the download.

Can't hurt and might fix your problems.

I also wonder when Microsoft are going to release there next Pro OS

There are 46 different flavors of Vista.. and they all suck for cad/cam apps.

XP Pro is going to be as good as it gets

for a while.

I'm trying XP Pro x64 right now. It's more trouble than its worth so far. It is faster, X2 seems to like it OK and SolidWorks screams, but half my apps won't run on an x64 OS.

So, I just managed to load XP PRO on my laptop.

trouble is all the yellow exclamations in device manager.

Can't get on to any network and stuff like that.

Do you think the Vista disk will have the drivers I need and install if I select replace driver etc?

Vista drivers likely won't be compatible with XP.

You will either need the manufacturer install disc or a way to get on the net and go to the appropriate websites for hardware drivers of each manuafcturer

Was it originally a win2k box or XP?

If it came as a win2k OS, then likely no, you could explore it however and see if the XP drivers are on there as well.
