quote:

no lie, the taps we used were osg exocarb-vx.

they are ticn coated tungsten carbide, they

are designed for 50-60 rc. go to osgtool.com

and find yourself a rep localy and set up a

demo. the place i work right now also had a

rep come in and we tapped 48rc h-13 with a

1/2-13 and 52rc s-7 with a 1/4-20 . yes if i

did not see it with my own eyes i would not

believe it either. but as someone on the

forum say "those who say it cannot be done

should not get in the way of those who are

doing it" enjoy , trevor

We just "hand tapped" (12) 1/4-20 blind holes into hardened S-7 52-54 Rc.........they didn't get tapped deep enough. Chipped 1 flute on the 2nd hole........hit the bottom. wink.gif

Around $85 for the tap........cheap for the time it saved.

Thanks Trev

I have done this before too!! Simply amazing!! Actually the holes were drilled and tapped for 1/4-20 and they were supposed to be 5/16-18. I had the OSG rep come out and he had never tried drilling an existing hole bigger and tapping. It took a few taps and a few drills, but man, like you said it saved a ton of money and time. OSG even split the cost of the taps and drills that broke. They are a great company to deal with and make great stuff!!
