STEP file surfaces

The guys here are sending STP files of the parts. We do not have a Pro-E convertor. Have you sent STP files before? They come in good but Mastercam sees the part has a solid model so when you pick 1 surface the whole part highlights. I know you can activate the solids icon to select individual surfaces. I would like it to come in like an iges where surfaces can be selected independently without choosing the solids icon to read the surface. When they check the boxes in Pro-E-- surfaces and wireframe the same thing happens has when they check-- solids and wireframe. Any Pro-E jockeys out there.

Create surface from solid

How about create surface from solids and place the solid on a level and turn it off?

Not sure what the import options are for step, but for parasolid, I can select if I want to import it as a solid or surfaces.

go to config>>converters>> and under solids, select trimmed surfaces instead of solids.

 

This way they will always come in as surfaces.

 

I have them come in as solids and then create surfaces from that when needed.

File*open, select options and you can choose

you can click on options button before convert. set either has solid or surfaces. I did this and 1 surface went haywire. Also did create surface from solid. what a pain. I scared to tell the guys to just send parasolids. it could be has funny as a monkey screwing a football.
