touch indicators

does anyone know of a good touch indicator for setting tools that has a dial gauge on it?

 

Also who I could buy it from?

 

We have the ones with lites on them but some of our wont lite them up.

I use these. I had to make a 5.000 stand to mount it on so it would be 6.000 inches tall.

We have the same ones here. They are OK at best.

IMO Therea always a moron screws them up too.

They need to be kept clean and well oiled.

I think getting a renishaw tool setter is cheap money for the time it saves at any CNC machine. M2C

We saw the one from MSC and really would like something smaller and very reliable. We are setting .008"-.012" drills on them.

How does everyone else do this?

For drills that size you may want to purchase a tool pre-setter. It would work nice because the tools would never have to come into contact with anything when you set them. Also you can spin the tool on the pre-setter and see if the tool is spinning true. We don't use anything that small but we have two pre-setters and they are great.

we do infact have a very nice pre-setter and run positive offsets on all our machines except the 20 robo-drills that use these drills??

I am not the one who is in charge of that area but when i asked why they werent using the presetter I was told they didnt want to walk to the tool room every time???

not a good reason if you ask me... presetter is the only way to go. our tool guy actually puts every drill up on the setter to ensure it does run true before it goes out there... go figure!!

You might want to consider a laser presetter.

We made our own here. I can give you an MCX file if you would like, I just don't know how to get it uploaded onto the FTP.... It keeps asking for a username and password. I have used mine on drills down to .015 with no problem.
