X4 calculator for depth not right

the calculator next to the depth selection used for drill points and stuff doesnt seem to be right. tried it for the last 2 days and it wont give me the right numbers.

Whats wrong with it? I used a .250 x 118 drill and it comes up with .0751 as the extra depth. This is correct assuming you left the tip width at zero.

tried to do a .286 dia with a 90 deg spot drill and used a .015 tip flat and came up with a depth of .051 so all i can tell you is that it isnt working for me.

mine works fine with those numbers, I get -0.1355

for a depth. Are you sure the tool is right? is it using the current tool?

I've had to regen and / or double click on the tool if I've changed the tool to get the angle to change in the calculator.. eg. I had a 120 degree spot drill correctly defined and I had been using a 90 degree spotdrill previously. When I used the depth calculator it shows a 90 degree point until I exited the operation and re-opened. Got to pay attention to the details... arg

Just use a calculator, like the rest of us.

 

60 deg - dia * .866 = depth

 

82 deg - dia * .5752 = depth

 

90 deg - dia * .5 = depth

 

100 deg - dia * .4196 = depth

 

118 deg - dia * .3004 = depth

 

120 deg - dia * .2887 = depth

 

135 deg - dia * .2071 = depth

 

140 deg - dia * .182 = depth

 

150 deg - dia * .134 = depth

DUH it should work correctly. It just changed my "V" drill from the library from 118 deg to 90 degrees.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it does not. There doesn't seem to be a pattern to it. Sometimes if adds to depth no matter if you have add to depth or overwrite selected.

Just noticed my depth calculator doesn't work. It keeps giving me positive values when they should be negative. I use this function ALL the time in X3. I need it to work.

The only problem with the formulas given by mastercam guru is that it doesn't take into account the flat on the tip of the tools.

Ther were prbplems with the depth calculator

that were addressed in X4 MU3.

It's worked OK for me since then

What does the title bar say in the upper left corner?? I think that is the initial X4 release

and the drill point calculator was a mess.

Its fixed in MU3.. Maintenance through 12/31/09

is required for MU3. I strongly recommend you install MU3 if you can
