solids question

i'm using master cam 9

i created a bolck in solids 8" x 8" x 3" thick.

I created a sphere in center 3.0625 Dia

I used Boolean remove command and cut it .

Ok it all looks good, now my question is!!!

How or what do i use to machine the sphere?

I'm using a training tutorial as a ref, but it

doesnt show how to machine the part,,,,

Please help if you can

Surface rough pocket with a ball nose to ruff. Surface finish parallel, project-blend or scallop to semi. Scallop or project-blend to finish.

Are those paths better than Flowline/Spiral for finishing?

I've only used scallop a handful of times.

Construction plane is not parallel to the tool plane,

 

What is that ?

your construction plane should be the same as your gview, normally its top. you can change that from the parameter from toolpath there is an option called plane click on that and make all plane top.

You can also convert your solids to surfaces (on another level) and machine from the surfaces.

Good question, Jeff. I've only used flowline (never spiral) a handful of times.

 

I haven't done any 3D (in MC) in almost 3 years.

Delete that toolpath,set your tool plane to "TOP" is you are using a 3axis machine, and reselect geometry and boundaries.

How do you select geometry and boundries /

as you can tell this is my first time at this.

Just rotate your pary or part whatever you call it with xform rotate. set it in similar way as it would appear on the machine.

may I know which toolpath you are creating? After selecting your toolpath you should select the whole model.

ok , i clicked on the Drive tap.

Changed it to A , and it ran the toolpath.

 

Question ? what is the difference in

Drive tap A, N, S

what does that change ?

 

And when i do a finish surface it wants to machine the face and the Rad,

Is there a way just to do the Rad.

Its been ages since I used v9 but I remember after selecting pocket you have to select all surfaces or solid then click on done.

To finish only curve portion you can create a circle on top of the model and select that as containment boudary. so it will limit the movement of the tool.
